Guest guest
It is my understanding that any topical application runs the risk of spreading the infection. I have only used internal herbs and occasionally a spray (no rubbing or movement) J Fidler, MCPP, (RH) AHG Herbalist ________________________________ To: ukherbal-list Sent: Wed, November 24, 2010 4:49:02 AM Subject: Re: was impetigo- now staph I understand that Thyme essential oil is very effective against many strains of Staph (including MRSA) - may be worth adding a few drops to the poultice. a > > I usually use Chelidonium major and Thyme with Staph. > J Fidler, MCPP, (RH) AHG > Herbalist > > > > > ________________________________ > > To: ukherbal-list > Sent: Tue, November 23, 2010 2:46:50 PM > Subject: RE: was impetigo- now staph > > > > > Greetings All- > > I've had a query from a mother with a 13 year old daughter who started with > impetigo but is now dealing with intractable staph. Guest guest
Hi A number of years ago I treated a small person with impetigo from which both staph and strep had been cultured. Well actually impetigo is staph so it would be hard not to find it. It began as small patch but he reacted to the antibiotic and developed a rash which of course meant his skin was compromised and he got widespread impetigo including up his nose, around his ear and various body parts. He had been given 4 different Abx plus Fusidin cream over a 4 week period and he just got worse and worse. He was in a truly dreadful state, from both infection and reactions to various Abx. His GP had visited the house and told mother he was now a public health risk and he had to have an Abx for which he had to be weighed to get dose correct. Poor boy was facing kidney failure due to strep infection or colitis due to Abx side-effect either of which could have been fatal. I got them to dab on some " lotion " every time she looked at him. She did take him to be weighed and took the Abx away with her, with follow up appointment 3 days later. He didn't have the Abx but when she went back to hospital they said - look the Abx have worked, but she told him he'd been having herbs instead. At which point they told her that he was going to clear up anyway! One minute public health risk, next minute spontaneous remission. Anyway - to cut to the chase, I gave her a 50/50 mix of Calendula and Commiphora trs. yes it stings when first applied - but the alcohol helps dry up the weeping infection. The reason why we don't put ointments etc on impetigo is that the oil floats on the watery exudate and therefore spreads the infection. Alcohol just dries but the herbs are anti-infective. I've used same " lotion' many times since and it works really quickly. You can almost see the infection clearing. I've been told the stinging stops after the first few applications. Personally I wouldn't use a poultice. My guess would be that could harbour the infection and potentially make the situation worse by spreading it to uninfected areas. Alongside give a mixture to support immune system - I usually put in Arctium in impetigo mixes, along with Echinacea, Commiphora, and often Anemone and anything else that seems relevant. Plus lots of Vit C and zinc. all the best
Guest guest
Forgot to say what is probably obvious - scrupulous hygiene. Separate towels etc.

Guest guest
90% High alcohol. It also means the Commiphora mixes perfectly as it's also 90%. > > Did you use Calendula 90 or 25%? > J Fidler, MCPP, (RH) AHG > Herbalist > > > > > ________________________________ > > To: ukherbal-list > Sent: Wed, November 24, 2010 7:00:57 AM > Subject: Re: was impetigo- now staph > > > > Hi > > A number of years ago I treated a small person with impetigo from which both > staph and strep had been cultured.
