Guest guest
Hi AllFor those of you who have VCD, I am trying to decide if I should take the test to determine if I do. Can you tell me common symptoms that are a pretty good indication that I might have it? I don't want to go through another test if I don't have to. Thanks much. -- Take care,
Guest guest
Any form of asthma is diagnosed mostly from how it acts. Be sure you don't have GERD - it would act up under some of the same conditions when asthma acts up, such as during exercise and at night. Also my GERD was a serious trigger of my asthma. vocal cord dysfunction and/or asthma Hi All For those of you who have VCD, I am trying to decide if I should take the test to determine if I do. Guest guest
Thanks Dora. I have low acid in my stomach rather than GERD. They thought that a while ago and tried to treat me for it. Let's just say it was not a pleasant experience. Sorry you have it. Any form of asthma is diagnosed mostly from how it acts. Guest guest
,I have severe VCD. In fact, I feel that I sound like a broken record preaching about it. I would highly recommend you follow through with the testing. It is a bit uncomfortable, but it is over very quickly (laryngoscope is how they diagnosed me). My docs have told me that more that half of all asthmatics probably have VCD as well. It can be extremely hard to differentiate from an asthma attack. The main symptom is coughing and extreme sudden (and I mean sudden) shortness of breath that feels like it is in the top of the chest. My attacks never feel like they are in my throat. They feel like the the tops of my lungs are seizing and I want to cough and cough and cough. The cough can be quite violent. My VCD triggers are menthol, eucalyptus, incense, Pine Sol, some spicy scented candles, truck exhaust, musky perfumes etc. Generally perfumes are not considered to be a vcd trigger as they are also known to be an asthma trigger and cause inflammation in the lungs. The only way to control a vcd event is through breathing exercises. Many doctors tend to downplay vcd. However, if you are not getting air, you are not getting air. I was hospitalized earlier this year with the main part of the attack being vcd. I was incarcerated for 3 days. Uncontrolled vcd can also cause asthma attacks and vice versa. They tend to feed off of each other. MadelineTo: asthma Sent: Friday, July 22, 2011 8:41 PMSubject: Re: vocal cord dysfunction and/or asthma Thanks Dora. Guest guest
This is great information Madeline. I am going through with the test. They can't get me in until September unfortunately. I don't cough much but I've certainly experienced the sudden difficulty in breathing. I generally can wait it out and then I'm just exhausted. However it turns out, it will be good to know. Thanks again. ,I have severe VCD. In fact, I feel that I sound like a broken record preaching about it. I would highly recommend you follow through with the testing.
