Guest guest
, I didn't have trouble at the kindergarten level but I have had trouble since the end of first grade and is now in 6th grade. I think you have started with the right steps. You have looked into your rights (which I didn't know to do) and you are taking a parent advocate. One other suggestion might be to tape record the meetings. I have recorded all of my meetings for the last 1.5 to 2 years and believe me, I have been to alot of them now. I mention at the beginning of the meeting that I am going to record and give them the option to do the same. If they choose not to record, then I mention that they have been given the option and choose not to record and have no objection to my copy being the only copy. I really didn't make that statement when I first started recording but as the meetings got rougher and I thought I might need to use them at a later date, I made sure they agreed to me recording. I have slacked on that a bit and hope I don't regret it. I don't know how useful they will be for me but it is a good way to recall memory and things that were said. And with it on tape, they can't really deny saying things. I could go on and on about IEP's and schools and getting services for your child but I better stop here. Good Luck!
