While the debate is out on the health benefits of coffee -- I think it is well

documented that it has adverse affects on things such as adrenals.

Many on these boards are dealing w/ adrenal fatigue ( I'm one of 'em)

I relied on coffee for the artificial stimulant to keep me going which I know

has hurt the repair of my adrenals, and I feel the adrenal fatigue contributed

to the Rheumatoid Arthritis. ( as does my Rheumatologist)

Not a scientific proof, but after I radically changed my diet ( mostly raw foods

at least for over a month) and weaned myself off of coffee, my pain of the RA is

almost all gone (from 6-8 Advil/ day to the rare 1 per day.) 20 pounds and 3

dress sizes down, everyone says I look much healthier and I'm walking everyday

and continue to re-build my body and overall health. Still mostly raw with very

little meat. No wheat/dairy/sugar.

Re: Thyroid and progesterone

I can understand the idea of tweaking precursor hormones or enzymes to perk up

the progesterone, but if you are not ovulating anymore because you are past

child bearing age, and not having traditional menstrual cycle anymore, wouldn't

the body just not manufacture the progesterone anyway regardless of what you

did? I mean if you don't ovulate, you don't make very much progesterone.

Thanks for the post, . That is so exciting and encouraging. I know that for my self as well, I feel better without coffee. I rarely eat meat, and I'm trying to cut out dairy too. My main health issue has been my adrenals.

I agree on the coffee. I never had been a caffeinater. I never drank

coffee. when i started " taxing " my adrenals, I started " using " green

tea and then black tea! I don't even drink green tea anymore unless

i'm have a friend over for tea and decaf is always an option or

offered.

I'm not so sure about the raw thing yet. for years i never had a

weight problem and now after the WP, bam, i'm much heavier. even

though i'm off the WP its been impossible to get it off. I've been

off wheat for over a week (not even my friday night pizza!

heavens...i'm suffering), I don't eat dairy anyway (I never liked it.

i grew to like it on pizza but that was it.) I only ever ate meat

when i was racing a bike and needed the amino acides and iron from

red meat and even then, eating red meat was about 1-2x/month. i do

eat mostly raw (not trying to, but happen to) but this morning i ate

oatmeal, cooked. but the rest of the day are fruits, veggies, mostly

raw. occassionally, i'll slip in some egg, chicken breast or turkey

breast if i'm craving the protein. night is salad for dinner. No

breads with it. I mean, i really cleaned up my diet and STILL no

weight loss. and yes i exercise. 5-6x/week. aerobic. and STILL some

nights of insomnia (20-30% of the nights/month)...

so i'm not so certain just going raw will do it for either weight or

other symptoms, not if there's something deeper going on hormonally

which i suspect.

I have run low K (potassium) for years, not from diet but from disease.

Since I blocked my aldosterone (which brought my K up), I have lost 4 pounds

- not spectacular, maybe not a trend, but at least a little hope. Its been

about a month since I went on spironolactone. K went from 3.7 - 4.8 (3.5 -

5.5) in two weeks. I've never before lost 4 lbs in a month since I went

hypo.
