Guest guest
Given our recent discussion on the prep procedure for a colonoscopy in someone with SCI/D, I thought it was interesting that in the current issues of New Mobility magazine, they had an article about the very issue. I thought some of you guys might be interested in reading about how best to prep for a colonoscopy (or any procedure/surgery that requires bowel prep). Here is a link to the article: http://www.newmobility.com/articleView.cfm?id=11559 The basic suggestion was that a colonic can be used in place of the traditional bowel prep (that is totally unmanageable with a neurogenic bowel). I thought, " what a fantastic idea! " The suggestion was to schedule the procedure in the afternoon and schedule the colonic the morning of. Or, schedule the procedure for first thing, and schedule the colonic for the afternoon before. I thought it was an interesting article and will definitely be doing the coloinic for my bowel prep. It was about 2 years ago now that my GI recommended a colonoscopy. When I asked about the prep and explained that I could not do it, they were at a loss. Since I refused to do the traditional bowel prep (drinking the gallon of GoLytely or similar product) and they didn't have any alternatives, I never had the procedure. At least I now know there is an alternative. Jenn
