i thought I would share an interesting moment with my dad. He has

had LBD for over 7 years. Last November, he could no longer

ambulate. We thought he was dying at that point because he began

sleeping 24/7 (eating with total assist) eyes always closed, little

communication. Then he rallied. Now he is " Up " at meal times but

fades immediately after, eyes shut (not necessarily asleep) little

communication.

We assumed he was shutting down and not absorbing much. However,

last weekend when we visited he said " tte " and we asked " do

you like her " he said " yes " . We had no clue who tte was until

and aide came up to tell us how much she loves our dad and to our

surprise her name tag read GEORGETTE.. so does he read the name tags

to know to connect her with her name?? Seemed to amaze us.

A few weeks earlier, my brother (who hasn't seen him in over 1year

because his last visit dad said all those crappy lewy things and my

brother could not deal with it) And we were talking to him. My

brother was sitting there and talking to me about the place and we

said " Bill is here " and he said " I know I can hear his voice "

So every once in a while they break through the fog and let us know

they are still there... So you never know how much of your chatter

they understand..

Donna, I so agree. During the last 3 years of my mother's life she spent

increasingly more

time with eyes closed, yet I would often get a comment to let me know she was in

there,

hearing and somewhat able to respond. Friends would say they couldn't wake her

up but I

said she's in there, just not always able to react. With me I am sure I always

got showtime,

so even when she couldn't even get those baby blues open, she would respond

somehow,

right until she died.

Mother, age 92, died Aug. 12/06 after 13 year decline from PDD
