Guest guest
Betsy, Kennedy's heart defects presented a day after her birth. She was in heart failure by day 5 and on day 9 she had a 5 and a half hour open heart surgery for her ASD, VSD, PDA, and coarctation of the aorta. Guest guest
Hi Betsy, My son Jack's heart problems presented at birth when the paed noticed his heart murmur. He was diagnosed the next day with VSD,double outlet right ventricle and pulmonary stenosis(similar to tetralogy of Fallot). He is scheduled for catheterization in the next month or so and if all is well, open heart surgery later this year. He is now 2 1/2yrs old and weighs 9.9kgs. Guest guest
Betsy, At birth they said Jillian had a persistant left superior vena cavae but needed no intervention. She was released by the cardioligist. She later, at I believe 9 months old(or 7 months??) had a swallow study that showed an aberrant right subclavian artery that was wrapped about her esophagus. The Cardioligist was shocked that she had missed that on the first 2 echos. They wanted to severe the artery, but we opted against it and are glad we did. it has presented no problems . Guest guest
's heart defects presented immediately upon birth. came out kicking and screaming, and didn't make a sound. He was transported to the city hospital within hours. He has transposition of the great arteries (the pulmonary artery and the aorta are switched), pulmonary atresia (the pulmonary artery is missing), and Complete AV Canal (he only has one valve). He had surgery at 36 hours old, 7 months old, and 3 years old. We are seeing the cardiologist tomorrow (2/18) for his yearly follow up and also to get clearance to have PE tubes placed next week. I'll keep everyone updated on that since I have this horrible sense that there are going to be problems. Not with and the tubes, but with the anesthesia (sp?). Guest guest
, First time. The ENT actually asked me why we had put them off for so long. It took all my self control not to throttle him. (I do really like this Dr. but.......................) This is the doctor who wouldn't clean wax out of 's ears because he didn't want to cause a cardiac event! (read: he was running real late and didn't want to get further behind). Guest guest
, We just went to the cardiologist today. He said everything looked awesome. He hadn't seen since was a baby. This doctor was on ward rotations when was born. He was one of the doctors who blind sided us with different diagnoses. He was obviously astonished at the obvious growth and development that has attained. We had been seeing several different cardios over the years but they have all slowly left the hospital and this doctor is now one of the only ones left that we recognize. His *bedside* manner isn't the greatest but since we only go once a year, I can deal with it.
