Guest guest
Hi All:The Valium and Advair combination is making things better. It's been 7 days and I can feel an improvement. I hope it keeps going. I'm even doing a tiny amount of exercise. My question is about enjoying a tasty adult beverage. I love collecting wines and having a glass of wine with dinner. It normally doesn't bother me. When it was just lower Valium and the corticosteroids levels I drank wine without a problem. I only drink white because I am allergic to red. When my asthma acts up, that goes out the window. I have lots of wine waiting for me to come back to it. I belong to several wine clubs and the boxes are stacking up, but I've been afraid to mix alcohol with the increased medication. What are your thoughts? -- Take care,
Guest guest
The main risk is increased sedation from the wine/valium combination. When you take the valium and how much you take is the main deciding factor. If you go to a local pharmacy, they can answer your question best since they will have your doses and frequency at hand. I suspect that for one glass of wine with a meal and provided that you arent going to drive anywhere, it probably wont be an issue...however, I would really ask the pharmacist. I have an occasional drink with my advair and that doesnt seem to cause any issues. Ann alcohol Hi All: The Valium and Advair combination is making things better. Guest guest
I just don't drink at all - never have done (don't like the taste, and wouldn't even drink schloer when it was basically just an alcohol free wine. I'll drink it now it's more like flavoured fizzy water). But it does mean that I don't have to worry about it affecting medical conditions or medications. We can get quite a few non-alcoholic wines, beers etc - can you get those in America, and would they be an alternative for you now? My friends who drink them say they taste pretty similar to the alcoholic versionsJennTha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! Don't brand me, don't classify me, don't tell me what to wear. I'll be who I want to be, and I'm proud to be me. The main risk is increased sedation from the wine/valium combination. When you take the valium and how much you take is the main deciding factor. Guest guest
I know they make these things called Wine coolers here? Have never tasted one, supposed to be low to non alcoholic, but, I believe there is still a low amount of alcohol in them. People tell me they are decent. To: asthma Sent: Fri, July 1, 2011 5:11:07 AMSubject: Re: alcohol I just don't drink at all - never have done (don't like the taste, and wouldn't even drink schloer when it was basically just an alcohol free wine. Guest guest
I have been trying to make my life simpler. Since I have a lot of food allergies, I am learning to bake things form scratch a lot more than I used to, using a lot of those products from whole foods, I have a milk allergy. So even buying cake's from a bakery, or box mixes, are bad for me, but that chocolate one doesn't seem to have anything in it to make me sick, so that is two good things about it, and I don't have to bake it either. They don't put a lot of icing on it either. It is just a light icing, and then wonderful, gorgeous large shavings of pure chocolate all over the cake. It's enough to make you faint. So instead of buying lots of other foods I used to eat, I just splurge a little once in a while and really enjoy it. Even my son whom doesn't eat anything like that, he eats really, really, healthy, will actually eat a piece of it. LOL, he says I corrupt him.To: "asthma " <asthma >Sent: Fri, July 1, 2011 12:56:26 AMSubject: Re: alcohol Excellent suggestion. Guest guest
Willow have you ever tried the soy milk or almond milks that Silk makes? Not the ones that come in the box on the shelf (those are icky) but the half gallons that come in the organic food sections? I drink those because regular milk tends to give me trouble sometimes...they work pretty good in recipes. Sometimes you have to adjust the amount of milk in them (usually have to add maybe an 1/8 cup more) but overall the flavors are pretty good. ( likes mac & cheese better with the soy milk now (and I use Vanilla flavored...lol). Ann Re: alcohol > > > > > > > > > Thanks Ann. Guest guest
Yes, I sometimes use Rice Milk, but, I get tired of that. Yes I like the chocolate soy milk, cannot seem to tolerate the regular while soy milk. Almond milk is very good. I found that this one brand of milk here, it is a regular dairy around here, the fat free, skim milk, isn't bad at all. But, just that one brand, only, and if I go to the next county there is another fat free, skim milk brand there that is ok, so I guess I do have alternatives. But, just have to be careful with baked goods, especially in boxes off of the supermarket shelf, it is amazing the names they have for milk products they put in all of that stuff. Still learning, it is mind blowing how many names they can come up with. To: asthma Sent: Fri, July 1, 2011 3:50:53 PMSubject: Re: alcohol Willow have you ever tried the soy milk or almond milks that Silk makes? Guest guest
Being an Irish Catholic background, I am very familiar with wine (and Irish whiskey). I have never been much of a drinker myself and even less so since my lungs decided to be the boss. However, I do still occasionally enjoy a glass of wine or a beer. As I don't seem to have a problem with sulfites (which can cause an asthmatic allergic reaction in those who are sensitive). I am very careful not to drink when I am flaring. Even though there is some evidence that moderate alcohol will not hurt (and even may help) asthmatics, I worry about the relaxation of the airways with my other condition. So, I guess I am saying moderation when it is safe. Ann is correct that you should be careful with mixing alcohol with the valium. Other than that go for it.Willo - several years back I had to go off all milk products. It is a nightmare finding things that don't have milk in them. You just have to pretty much avoid all processed foods (even most pastas). I did most of my shpping at a whole foods market.MadelineTo: asthma Sent: Friday, July 1, 2011 11:42 PMSubject: Re: alcohol Yes, I sometimes use Rice Milk, but, I get tired of that.
