Guest guest
By car, train or plane?  Regardless, if possible, stay one or two nights in the city close to the hospital before leaving. That way you can get used to being in the outside world again AND if any complications arise you are close by.  If by car, have lots of pillows available, to wedge around into comfort. I thought I would prefer the back seat, and wound up preferring the front seat laid down about halfway, with pillows between me and the door.  Take it easy, drive in the far right lane, take breaks. In other words, don't be in a hurry, take it at whatever pace you need.  Take pain meds before leaving and take them on time while traveling. Once pain sets in it is harder to get rid of. AND, if traveling, could be even harder. If you think you might get seasick, be sure to have something for that, too.  We were very worried about our 4 hour drive and it turned out to be easy, almost pleasant. I stayed two nights by the hospital and we planned for the ride home to be whatever it would take to get there, fast or slow.  Hope you have a good, and easy trip.  Hanna Subject: any hints for travel after surgery To: Date: Thursday, November 5, 2009, 8:46 AM  I will be traveling about 3 1/2 hours after surgery in January and just wondered if anyone has any tips they could give me? thank you
