Guest guest
Dear Herbalists I would be grateful for any help or comments with the following patient - she is a 7 year old girl newly diagnosed with IDDM and currently having wildly fluctuating blood glucose levels, with consequently varying doses of insulin. Her anti-GAD antibodies are high (646) but anti-AI2 are only slightly increased (0.1). The patient is slender, of SE Asian descent, with long black hair, very active, busy. She is bright, cheerful and sparkly and very co-operative. Last year she contracted an unusual hepatitis (not A/B or C) and was hospitalised. It was severe and took a long time to clear. Her LFT only normalised about a month ago, at which time she was starting her blood glucose problems and has now been diagnosed as Type 1 DM. Also more prone to coughs and colds since Hepatitis She is thirsty, hungry, warm - has hot feet which she puts out of the bed at night. Occasionally burning urine. Tongue clean and pink-red. No signs of jaundice. A lot a family and marital problems due to a gangster father during first 2 years of life and mother now divorced and remarried. She is currently being treated with homeopathic Phosphorus and tinctures of Centella asiatica, Taraxacum off (planta tota) and Berberis vulgaris. In addition GI eating advice, complete avoidance of dairy and increased dietary intake of cinnamon, turmeric, sumach and karela (bitter melon) have been advised. Any experiences or suggestions gratefully received. Best wishes Craig
