Guest guest
Brilliiant! I remember now - one of those bits of knowledge that gets tucked away and forgotten about, wonder if that's why I haven't been using licirice for my skin patients - However - my first thought was to wonder if either of the whole herbs might actually contain something that might inhibit the reaction (rather like Filipendula not actually causing stomach ulcers).... And.a quick google search reveals that this reaction is in fact substantially inhibited by cyclodextrin, a common laboratory reagent........... Now...... I'm not a chemist, but dextrin sounds sweet to me, and it is apparently easily obtained in the lab from starch..... licorice is a very sweet herb...... I'm wondering if there are any other constituents of licorice that might also have this effect. So, as I don't have easy access to a lab to test this out....... unless anybody can help me on this, I am going to revert to plan B which is to search the historic records for any reputedly successful combinations including both, and to ask this; Are there any of you lovely lot out there who have successfully combined the two?????. I love a mystery!, just call me Miss Marple. I'm off for my supper, will investigate further anon...... I do seem to remember seeing a bit of research combining mahonia and glych in an effective skin cream.... will hunt this out . very best wishes Sally Owen MNIMH Ania Cannon wrote: > To add to my previous (perhaps oversimplified) posting, glycyrrhizin will also cause precipitation of berberine, as we were taught early on in our course at the School of Phytotherapy. > It is impossible now to remember who taught us this, or the source/reference (if it was given at all), but it was obviously part of the approved information, as carried in the body of the course curriculum.
