Hi Amy;

I beg to differ with you. YOU ARE doing something special. You are watching

your calories faithfully, making sure you eat protein first, watching your

fats,

and taking the time to exercise 45 minutes a day. That is all special. Some

people

here don't do those things and some arent even aware that they should. So

Amy, hats off to you.

KAREN--Before the hand of judgement comes down too hard on some of us

LOL, please remember that many are not in a position to do some of

the things on your list--especially exercise 45 min. a day. As I have

fibromyalgia, even doing that amount of exercise every OTHER day is

intolerable.

I figure folks are going to work out their own program

(eating/exercising/supplementing etc.) after WLS. That way, they can

tailor it to their own special needs and not feel like they are

failing if they don't do what everyone else feels they should... Just

my 2 cents worth--it seems like every person I've ever met has told

me I should be exercising upwards of an hour a DAY. Nobody seems to

realize that I cannot do that without being in severe pain--and my

life is impaired enough with pain. It certainly isn't a matter of me

not WANTING to; I'd love it if I COULD move around that much...

Thanks so much. We're back home now and just starting to get back into the old routine and adjusting to some new ones.

I am so sorry about your husband's grandmother, I know whe will be missed. It is always hard to keep on track when life intervenes. I am still having to trek back and forth to Florida every 6 weeks or so to help with my father, his condition has stabilized, but he still requires round the clock care, and my mother is getting worn out. I always make sure I stick in a video or two and take my cassette tape that I have recorded the audio portion of one of my favorite tapes on to, and I usually manage not to fall totally off the wagon. Hope life will settle down, and remember, tae bo is for life, so you are not behind. Delana

I may never get farther than this...in the past, I get up to about 16 minutes and then something happens or I get sick, and I have to start over. I'm really hoping that it won't happen this time because I'm going so much slower than I ever have before. But I appreciate all the positive e-mail my way. :)

Charlotte

P.S. Even tho' I only do a "low" amount, it makes a big difference in my life. My blood pressure goes down, and I can do more without feeling "exerted." I don't have to rest so much when I clean house, that kind of thing. I want to stay functional for as long as possible. Exercise is my ticket to do that. Plus......I happen to like exercising. I always have. It feels good to move.

You have the right attitude,Charlotte. Don't give up. The very first

time I started exercising I could only do ten minutes the first time

and just kept at it. If I can do it anyone can..LOL. Way to go!

update

Today is a breakthru day for me. I did 15 minutes regular work and 5 minutes of abs, and if you add those things together it adds up to twenty minutes total. Something I haven't been able to do for about two years now.

Hello Charlotte!

Hey, we all have times when we get thrown off schedule. You are a testament that we may get thrown off schedule but we can get back on in a few days! Great! Also, I wanted to comment that I, too, dreamed of being a dancer. Here lately I have been doing dance workouts and am looking to order a few more. African dance is my thing! Continue to take good care of yourself!

Tyra

update

The last few days I haven't exercised due to the total chaos of my life/illness/parents/child etc. Okay, so that's just an excuse. I know that. :)

Today I did 5 minutes abs (couldn't do all of it, but I jumped back in when I could) And 15 minutes of a Kickboxing tape -- basically the warmup section which was really long. It was the perfect workout to get back in the groove of a regular workout routine. I did splurge and get some "New York City Ballet" workout DVDs, I'll try them out and put them where they need to go. I had dreams of being a dancer as a child, as well as learning to play the piano. I do do Tae-bo, but I intermix with others so I won't get burned out on it. It is still one of the harder tapes that I do, but I know that I have worked out with it for sure. I like to sweat, and get that tremblingly feeling that I can't do one thing more.

You'll get back there Charlotte! Keep it up!

This week has been bad -- workout wise. Day before yesterday I managed 5 minutes and today I manged 3 mins. I set the clock for 15 but I just couldn't do it. I'll need to drop back for a while, until I make up the lost ground. :( This is the reason I hate holidays...everything gets messed up and it takes awhile to recover after them.

Today I did 10 minutes with the bootcamp basic and 1 minute with abs. All of it

hurt (good sign) but not in hurting myself way, but in that muscles are working

kind of way. The pain is just my muscles saying " Hey, we want to do this more

often. "

I did notice today that I can go down a little further stretching than I could

before. About an inch or two in all directions. :) Being flexible is good. It

puts the bounce in your walk. I'm off to take a bath...see ya tomorrow.

Good for you, Ron! I'm so glad to hear the good news about your positive

attitude. My used to say that many a time in life you find yourself in

the situation of having to go from point A to point B whether you like it or

not, but what makes the difference is the attitude you have on going through

your trial.

Keep up your spirit!

Hi All,

I haven't written in a while since quitting the WP and detoxing it through the

first half of 2008. I took a little hiatus from " managing " my heath. I swear, it

become a part time job or hobby even if you let it. Just want to update you all.

Some of the changes i made in my life this year have really effected me very

positively. For one: i stopped all sex hormones and ONLY used cortisol and

supplements to treat adrenal fatigue. I still take cortisol but notice my

amounts of taking it every day vary. some days i take more if i need it. i can

tell when i need it.

I do KNOW i need to treat my thryoid somehow other than through iodine. But it's

been hard because finding a doct to help me through it naturopathcally and in

conjuction with adrenals is very difficult. even if a doc is pro-armour here,

they typically shrug their shoulders when armour didn't work for me.

However, i'm getting by fairly well on just the adrenal support and sleep fairly

regularly (my only problem to start was SEVERE insomnia...and by SEVERE...i

mean... 7 nights no sleep...wired/tired all the time). Today, I have enough

energy to hike/walk or lightly jog the 2 dogs 5-6 days/week for an hour, teach 1

or 2 yoga classes per week and take 3 yoga classes per week. i'd say, actively,

i'm doing ok for someone with not the " best " metabolic balance. (my doc said if

her thyroid tests read at my levels she wouldn't be able to get out of bed!)

I don't " ride " or " race " my bike at this time (a sport i did for 4 years). I

think my very active lifestyle plus the stresses that were going on in my life

(house building, legal issues with old house, very sick beloved dog, the war,

economy, you name it) was just all too much for " me " ... Instead, I've made

" space " in my life. I put racing on hold, maybe forever, maybe not. I don't

focus on " getting " my workout in " or else " . I don't attach my worth to how fit i

am and it has done wonders for my overall wellness and health. If I miss a day

or two with no exercise, well, who the heck cares? People have remarked that I

look great, I sound happy. And you know what? I am. I've made so much space in

my life that I don't feel rushed when i go anywhere. I have time to talk to

people before and after yoga classes instead of running in and out the door. I

have time to connect and have meaningful conversations.

I also now have time to train 2 rescue dogs...one who was " unadoptable " and

needs a lot of work. It has been extremely rewarding turning a dog who was

" unadoptable " into one who's received his first obedience certification and will

go on to receive many more because he loves to work. I love spending time with

them and doing the things I love that has feel good reward has made a tremendous

impact on my body and soul.

I'm still not balanced metabolically. but I have to go this at my own pace. I

cannot deal with wasting time at doc after doc after doc not knowing what to do

with me.

I have to say, making space, taking a breath, slowing down in a world where

everyone is rushing has done more for me than any hormone.

THAT said: i still have to deal with a sluggish thyroid, some insomnia/axiety at

night (a few nights per month), and ovarian cysts that none of my docs are

thrilled with. I chose to work on cysts first because I cannot deal with making

perfect health management the center of my world. And i went the " traditional "

route here, because 8 months of iodine did nothing for them. they do believe the

one " mass " they are concerned with is nothing more than scar tissue. the rest

are cysts. as said before the CA125 is low/normal. so the traditional route i

went was through the birth control pill. i know, i know. I hear you all doing a

big group sigh. I was on Ortho Novum for 18 years and never " minded " it. it

never really affected my body at least, i never noticed it. the doc i'm going to

put me on Loestetrin (a 24 day cycle). I took it for 3 months. I actually

" liked " it. I felt great on it, but on the 2nd and 3rd time of trying, i

couldn't make it through day 9 without starting my period, so i asked her to go

back on Ortho Novum since my body always responded " well " to it. well i went

back on it and low and behold: anxiety, insomnia and weight gain! holy hormones!

i stopped 5 days after taking it and slept again. called my doctor, told her

what happend, and now she wants to consult with me, to get it right. yes, it's

traditional western approach, but at least she's listening to me and not forcing

me to wait out the symptoms for the " greater good " of getting rid of the cysts.

At least she's concerned enough to meet with me and not discount my symptoms.

Overall, health is better than it was before i started WP (cysts aside).

Insomnia still around but it does not control me. And overall: really happy.

I promised to check in w/the group now and then. Hope you all can learn from my

(archives) experience on the WP. Also, take a note of your lifestyles...diet,

stressors, activity... start saying no to things that cause too much anxiety.

(ironically bike racing tho i loved it, caused TREMENDOUS anxiety.) it feels

AWESOME to sleep in on sat's and sun's instead of getting up at 4 a.m. to drive

to some po-dunk town, be nervous for 24 hours prior (because bike racing can

result in bodily harm), just for the chance to win a tee-shirt. No wonder my

adrenals took a beating! That's not to say being competitive athlete is wrong (I

admire all athletes), but to say that listen to your body. how much anxiety or

stress is weighted against the outcome of the things you do? Lifestyle DOES

affect hormone balance, especially metabolic. Each one of us is different. Does

your lifestyle fit your body's needs? that's the big question I think many

people need to answer. Yes, i liked racing, but not to the overall effect it has

had on my body. If i wanted to race again, i'd have to spend a tremendous amount

of time and energy getting my metabolic hormones perfectly balanced and my

nutrition perfectly spot on. My body is not up to adjusting to just the

averages. I don't love racing THAT much to do THAT much work in order to do it!

I teach a free power yoga class every week because of the economy crisis. though

it is some " stress " to put the class together (not to mention trying to remember

your 90-minute sequence in front of 30 or more people) ...the outcome is well

worth it. having students come to thank me for the free class to keep their

practice alive while not breaking their bank during this tough time, is a huge

joy for me. It totally outweighs the stress and in the end, makes me happy.

So one thing i've learned about this whole hormone crash, is to definitely,

critically look at your lifestyle, along with diet and your health factors.

while i would NOT discount your real health issues (I would never suggest

anything is all in your head), a critical evaluation of lifestyle and then a

readjustment can make you feel lighter, happier and like the weight of the world

is off your shoulders. we already have to deal with sooooo many stresses in our

lives as obligations (work, family, etc.). Look at the stresses we put ourselves

through voluntarily and wonder if they are really necessary and if the benefit

outweights the pain of the stress itself. In the past, the stress for me was

bike racing week after week (oh the anxiety!) and now it's a free yoga class.

i'm still seeking goals and still exposing myself to some stress (you can't grow

w/stress), but i've adjusted the volume of stress level and benefits are now

higher!

k, off of stress-box. Hope all you ladies are doing well. I will continue to

chime in now and then!

Best health,
