Guest guest
Adrienne- Actually my dad sang this song forever. I remember it from when I was little. Same with my dad, he couldn't talk, but start a song and he would join in. I have the fondest memories of my Uncle Mel (dad's oldest brother who passed away almost 2 years ago of Parkinson's) taking his guitar and mandolin to the NH to visit dad. Uncle Mel would play an instrument and these brothers would sing. The first time I heard this I was over taken with emotions to hear my dad's voice, and to hear both of them singing together. In hindsight I should have taped those visits. I could feel the emotions creeping up with what you wrote. Very heart warming reading how you sang to your dad and then how he would sing the same song when he saw you. Thank you for sharing such a lovely story. All the best to you, with hugs- Sandie Des Moines, IA dad, Merle, passed from LBD 9-20-02, age 65 Jo, MIL, passed from LBD 4-29-07, age 78 -- Re: Courage - something you wrote That's such a hilarious song for LBD. My dad's inhibitions declined as LBD progressed and he became quite the comedian. I'll have to sing the brain version to him. He'll love it. It's interesting that my dad can sing and hum even though he can't talk most of the time. I wanted him out of the NH sooooooo bad and used to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow when I visited him. I told him I didn't know how but we were getting out of there and going over the rainbow. After that, he would start singing it as soon as he saw me walk in the place. That was one of the things that let me know more could be done to help him. Sandie/ wrote: " The old grey brain she aint what she used to be..... " Oh Dear Courage- This sent chills up my spine. My dad used to sing a song and it was hilarious. It was almost a coined song of his... " The old grey mare, she ain't what she used to be, plhhhhp on the apple tree pllpphhh on the apple tree.... The old grey mare she used to be, many long years ago. " It still makes me laugh. Even when dad couldn't talk any more I would get him to sing this song. And when my Uncle Mel brought his guitar and mandolin they would sing along together...this was one of the songs they sang together. What a heartwarming memories this is! Just sitting here reminiscing- Sandie See what's new at Figure Photos & Anacostia Fine Art Be my friend on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/figurephotos __________________________________________________
