Guest guest
I went sailing on the North Sea year ago (was at sea this time last year), and I had no problems with my asthma at all. Even when doing strenuous activities, like setting the sails, so hauling on heavy ropes, and climbing the rigging I was completely fine (it wasn't a cruise ship, it was a working tall ship - like a pirate ship). In fact, it wasn't till I'd got home again I realised I'd taken two empty salbutamol inhalers!JennTha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! Don't brand me, don't classify me, don't tell me what to wear. I'll be who I want to be, and I'm proud to be me.Subject: Re: Kathy-locationTo: asthma Date: Saturday, 25 June, 2011, 14:27I wonder if it's inhaling salt air that makes a difference when living on an island or along a beach. Didn't people long back used to go sit in salt caves, or even in our grandparents' generation have their doctors suggest taking a cruise, to help respiratory ailments?Slats>> Kathy,> I noticed that you live on an island. What general location are you at? I am looking at moving to an island off the southern coast of Georgia. I am curious too see if you breathe better on the island than mainland. I am just wondering if the location of my island is unique in its soothing effects or if it is all islands.> > Madeline> > > Sent from Yahoo! Guest guest
They did...and in Tampa FL they have a place where people can sit in synthetic salt caves (synthetic only in that the salt caves were built inside a building). It was opening right about the time we moved up to Ga..but it still exists Slats!! Guest guest
I know the salt air is supposed to be beneficial. However, we vacation quite regularly on the island (off the southern Atlantic coast) and at a family owned house on the Gulf. I do not get the same benefit on the Gulf. So, it has to have something to do with the purity of the air on the island. As before mentioned, we have vacationed quite a bit on the island, and I breathe much better there in all kinds of weather conditions. Even my husband (who has some nasty pollen allergies) does better there. As far as medical care goes, St. Simon's is well located. It is 30-45 minutes to the Mayo clinic in ville, FL. So, I am close enough to get regular care. Actually that is closer than the hospital I have to travel to now. We have hospitals closer to our house, but they aren't equipped to handle me. Like today, I drove an hour to spend the day in the ER getting treatments and just got home a little while ago. Then the ER docs say "why don't you come in sooner? Because I might (maybe) be able to control it at home then won't have to make the drive either by car or ambulance. Very tiresome. I can't wait until we are in a financial position to make the move. Right now I am projecting 12 to 18 months. Then, Island living here I come.MadelineTo: asthma Sent: Saturday, June 25, 2011 8:57 PMSubject: Re: Re: Kathy-location They did...and in Tampa FL they have a place where people can sit in synthetic salt caves (synthetic only in that the salt caves were built inside a building).
