Guest guest
To : dana pope, Our Chiropractic Neurologist said that I was holding my daughter back by giving her the chewy tubes. So I went home and gathered all 10 of them up, and put them away. (this has been about since June and it really wasn't that hard) I acutally kept one in a diaper bag (for emergencies...and I think, only used it once) Since then, I gave them ALL, even the spare, to someone else, that still used them. I am sure glad he spoke to me about it!!! It was all in HER best interest. Not always what you want to hear at the time though. He said that by allowing her to chew on things and items (especially given to her) that WOULD KEEP HER STUCK in an infant state of being, including nerves and everything about the body's mentality. He also said by giving stimming toys, it is the same thing. So I have gathered up all her string beads (like mardi gras beads) (which IS HER favorite), and by not always having it available, is it forces her to focus USE a creative mind and actually use her mind to build blocks or do ANYYHTING else. To use brain power, ... The other motions (stim toys) & (chew tubes) tends to get them stuck, not even being able to or even get the opportunity to focus on anything or anyone else mostly. He suggested taking the obsession toys away. He said these were issues that all the parents are getting trapped into thinking that they are doing something nice for their children and that is simply not true, that simply is NOT advancing their children. My daughter is nearly 6 y.o. (we took these away totally since June) I think it really is IN THE BEST INTEREST. Cheers! ~ Meaning don't let her do it for hours on end, basically. dana pope wrote: > > Wow! It sounds like she is on her way to recovery!!! Yes, please keep me posted on how she does. But we have seen good stuff in their awareness of others. Garrett has started to do what I see young toddlers do. He will be chewing on a chewy toy (my boys mouth everything!!!) and he will look at me or my husband and will come over and put the chewy toy to our mouths. He does a back and forth thing with us with trying to share that with us. So, I know that is good thing that he actually missed when going trough that age that typically does that. > > They will run to people and smile and want to be picked up and hugged or play with.
