You did not say if your diagnosis was done by neurologist and if he is the one

denying a thoracic MRI. Normally the thoracic area is last area docs will order

MRI for as normally the neck and lower back are the ones that get injured. I

finally put my foot down and insisted. I do have syrinx T5-T9, first area of

pain right about bra line area. What you are describing is how my syrinx felt

when forming. I would really caution against the PT until you know!!! The wrong

exercises could do more harm, That is not a personal opinion, most any here

would caution you. All the PT docs ordered for me always hurt me and now I know

most of the exercises caused more damage.

You as the patient have every right to educate yourself on this disorder,

interact with others like in this group, and advocate for yourself. An ignorant

doctor can do more harm than good. I am now with my upteenth neurologist and

have hit a home run!! Actually went for EMG (nerve conduction test) today. Not

all specialists are created equally, unfortunately. I am not on her often so

don't know if you have already posted with a bit more info   on your 'medical

journey' so far or asked for help in finding a qualified neurologist or

neurosurgeon in your area.

If posting a lengthy post it does help many of us to read easier if broken up in

paragraphs. I do not have ACM, only the syrinx plus other chronic ailments. I

have found one heck of a doctor and am being taken very serious. He is catching

things others ignored for years. Many of us here have been thru the doctor

nightmares!!! However, if you post with area you are in others may be able to

suggest good doctors near you.

Ice packs applied to midspine area may help you. Apply for no more 20minutes at

time. The pain from a syrinx is nerve pain, not muscular pain. Yes, the

paraspinal muscles can get very tight and spastic due to nerve glitches. You may

need muscle relaxers to help. Some have found OTC cremes to apply to muscles

that may help.

You'll find quite a few learned folks on here who have been there and done that

already and can help you out.
