Guest guest
i think i forgot ot add that milk with acidopholous cultures is also good for the digestive system, when i had ulcerative colitis years ago, chronic diarehea after eating anything was my worst symptom, it was suggested, and it has helped some, and the way i knnow is if i go somewhere where it isnt available adn drink anyother milk, i got bound up quickly so that proves to me it does have some good effects for me. i tried taking the capsules but they didnt seem as effective as the milk was. most places it is in 1% milk and it does have a unique taste it isnt as watery as1% milk or even 2% milk but once you acquire the taste you cant go back easily, i dont drink coffee but i do drink the milk alot, and use it on cereal and cook with it as well, hugs, sharon ---- Sara wrote: I am beginning to suspect an internal problem. And since she is nearly always on antibiotics, naturally it's worse. She is on Miralax 2X/day and Citrucel 1X/day - nitrofurantoin. They mix badly with the Seroquel. What a mess! But i still say thank you to you - and everyone here - because hearing from you is close to the only thing giving me strength to continue. Sharon, you and my new friends here are in my thoughts and prayers. Lin To Lin and all those who have loved ones on antibiotics. Please use probiotics to help the gut. Quite often older people with trashed immune systems get yeasty and full of fungus. Most of the time drs do not order probiotics because they are food supplements. I had my dad on Culturelle X3 a day. He had c-diff and that's a very nasty bowel disease. It did help some before his death. Since it is a food, it shouldn't react with any drugs...it should help. Guest guest
My mom has dealt with constipation for years, and we thought we had tried everything. Now we have found something that works for her and keeps her out of ER. Lots of liquids. As much exercise as she can handle -- some days not much. At breakfast, 7 dried apricots, an acidophilus capsule, and a metamucil capsule. At lunch 2 metamucil capsules. Banana once or twice a day. 2/3 to 3/4 cup of prune juice daily. Metamucil capsule at supper. Even with that, her BMs are hard enough that they can stop up the toilet, so I have a big rubber glove I keep in the bathroom and fish out what I can, then use the plunger to send the rest down the drain, wash off the glove then sanitize it and plunger with alcohol, take the stools in a bag out to the dumpster. This is much better than soap suds enimas and painful trips to ER every few weeks, which was what was happening the first 3 months she was here with us. Previously she had been on milk of mag daily, then Miralax, none of which helped. in Wilmington NC
Guest guest
I'm not sure if this has been added to the list of suggestions for constipation, but the nursing home uses Fruit-Eze: http://www.fruiteze.com/ It's a mixture of pureed fruits (prunes, dates, etc.) and it tastes good. After I tried some at the nursing home, I started using it myself to get some extra fiber. I have found that psyllium bothers my stomach, so this is a good alternate. in Dallas > > My mom has dealt with constipation for years, and we thought we had > tried everything. > > Now we have found something that works for her and keeps her out of > ER. Guest guest
I cut a fresh orange into small bites for Lee. The trick is to do it EVERY day, and my darling (who's been chronically costipated for the 53 years we've been married) is as regular as clockwork. But if I miss a day, it messes up the whole plan (no pun intended) -- Genius is taking something difficult and making it simple.
