Mostly I get really bad chest pain, and wheeze really badly, and I start losing my voice, usually at any time I get one of those symptoms, I get moving, so, I really cannot say I haven't been able to breathe, not yet, or maybe I just don't realize it yet. I know when I went into anaphylactic shock a few times, I couldn't breathe then, and it was scary. To:

When you have an attack do have problems breathing in/breathing out/or both?

I had one yesterday and I couldn't get anything in. I relaxed and sat down to do breathing technique and it took a while before I could get a good breath in. But the entire time I had no problem with the exhale.

We are having an awful heat spell in NY w/temps reaching 98 and air is very heavy and I avoid going out when it's like this. I've also been having chest pain and am wheezing and when my chest feels like there is pressure on it I never know if this is a heart attack or the lack of oxygen due to asthma, sjogren's in lungs & pulmonary fibrosis. When I get like this I won't use my treadmill but instead will walk as quickly as I can around apartment for 30 min. or so, hoping to get more oxygen in my lungs. When the weather isn't as hot I always do hatha yoga because it requires deep breathing and it usually works for me. I have two a/c's in apartment but because of the cost of electric I've been using only one but today with chest pain and need for more air I am using both. If I continue using both a/c's my electric bill will be around $350 a month. Wish a medical note could exclude me from paying full amount but with our economy being what it is I guess that's wishful thinking.Sharon/NYFrom:"willothewispl@..." Lynne,The asthma won't cause inhale issues. However, vcd will. My docs told me that it is suspected that up to half of all asthmatics also have vcd. Most of that number is undiagnosed. The breathing exercises are the only way to help the vcd. So, you did well there. I know exactly what you are talking about, the weather here has been awful, Pittsburgh, Pa, and I think my air conditioning is going bad. It is cold, but, it is very wet. And I have been having a heck of a time. Need to call the maintenance early tomorrow morning. Making me really sick, my chest is just killing me. Been using my nebs more. Left the door on the balcony open for awhile to dry it out, maybe try it again later, supposed to be bad storms later, don't want to think about that, I need to dry this apt out. I bet the maintenance man tells me there is nothing wrong tomorrow, what do you want to bet?To: asthma ; asthma Sent: Thu, June 9, 2011 1:05:18 PMSubject: Re: Asthma attack breathing, inhale & exhale

Oh Madeline, this is so confusing. I had VCD test and the ENT and Speech Path said no to VCD. The only thing I know is my throat swells 24/7 Allergies????? and when I am physically exert myself I can come up really short of breath and can't breath. I also have terrible throat swelling can't breathe when exposed to wood fires, etc. And anaphlatic (sp) problems when I eat sometimes culprit who knows???? I can't narrow it down.

I am so confused. What is heck is wrong with me.

I have removed all the allergens in my house and still have same problems.

For me, I cough. I will breathe in, and its like my breath triggers a reflex in my throat that makes me cough. Im not usually the wheezing, short of breath type of asthmatic..but with the increased coughing, I do get short of breath on exertion. When my peak flows are down, I tend to be more likely to get out of breath walking. I dont feel like Im having trouble breathing, but more like I cant catch my breath. I dont know if that makes sense or not.

I know I was having lots of trouble wheezing, and chest hurting, and my voice was getting worse, I could hardly talk, so in the Er they gave me nebulizer treatments all, or most of the night, and then my voice came back, the Dr. was the first one to tell me, when your voice gets that bad, if my home nebulizer doesn't work get to the ER, or in some cases just get to the ER.To:

In NYS if you have a doctor send a note to your electric co. they cannot shut you off with certain disabilities. You might try calling your gas/electric co and ask them about that. I lived in Rochester, and if I had supplied them wiht a note, they werent supposed to shut me off. Another thing to look into if you dont already have it set up is budget billing where you pay an average bill...that way it stays closer to the same month to month and it balances out the cost.

Ann, I tried to have my rent reduced or else to have them give me less of an increase ever since I had to stop working and go onto SSDI but my rental office told me that I am not qualified for that type of reduction. Also I am not rent controlled anymore since my rent is over a certain amount and I'm hoping that their increases will not be too steep for me. The same thing would happen if I were to contact my electric company and ask for a reduction in price being that I need the a/c on 24/7 in order for me to breathe because they would refuse me for the same reason. Too bad. I haven't looked into it yet but hope that I will be capped at a certain amount once I turn 65 -- but as you know, NYC is strapped for money and they are increasing everything they can. They are talking about increasing the bridges and tunnels to $10 each way and then they've been toying with the idea to start charging us for the use of the 59th Street Bridge or for a better name -- the Queensborough Bridge. Now with Medicare and Medicaid about to be phased out I am praying that those my age and older will still have some form of coverage comparable to them. Miracles do happen ... I thought I was going to faint from the severe lung pain when our temperature went up to 98 but today is a beautiful day and temps around 83 and I'm feeling better than ever. I'll always be in lung pain but today is a good day for me. I heard that we are in for another very hot summer .... The power companies fall under different rules than rent. I dont think you will see medicare/medicaid be phased out in our lifetime.. Check out the ADA and Public Service Commission rules about shutting off the utilities to ppl with disabilities. This just happened to show up when I googled ADA and utility shut offs...

Hi Ann .... I probably didn't make myself clear; I can afford to pay for my electric and rent bills but wish that there was a stipulation for those of us needing the a/c 24/7 due to lung and breathing problems. Same thing with my rent increases: I went to my landlord with my lease and asked if there was any way that my rent increases would be less and she said that it wasn't possible. Now all I can do is hope that once I turn 65 that maybe my increases won't be as harsh. We have Heap here in NY but they work with the counties welfare system, now I am not downing people on welfare who need it and want to work or who are disabled and need it to get by until they get their money from ssi or ssdi but you know there are those who take advantage. The point is we what we have here is HEAP jojoTo: asthma Sent: Sunday, June 12, 2011 11:46 AMSubject: Re: Asthma attack breathing, inhale & exhale
