Guest guest
Well, I find that the amount of mucus does come and go according to how much liquid I drink, how much exercise I get in a day, and especially whether or not I have a cold or sinus trouble going on. Kay -------------- Original message -------------- Hi EveryoneAs I have been sharing with everyone, I'm experiencing better results with my regime of Vit's and herbs as opposed to the medications. On Friday, I was visiting a client who operates a Restaurant in a 150 year old building. At one point during my visit she asked me to join her in the buildings basement, which I did. Once there, I thought we were just going to retrieve something, but she lit up a cigarette! I quickly told her that I could not be around smoke, then she lit a 2nd one. I left coughing! Since then, I've been dealing with extra mucous. On Tuesday morning in my shower, I started coughing up what seemed like extremely thick green mucous with lumps and almost like scabs (just a couple large lots of these). I haven't coughed since nor is there anymore mucous of any description. Another description would be like an absess bursting! During the last 14 months I have not experienced anything like this, and I'm hoping this is a sign of wellness. I'm also scared to ask my Dr. or Specialist (whom I see on Feb. 7th) what this was as I'm sure it will equate to some unnessary test or a drug of some kind. Has anyone with this disease had a similar experience. I rested last night nervous that I was coming down with something. This morning, I awoke with energy and clear lungs! Thanks, appreciate your input.
Guest guest
Hi , Firstly, have you been dx bronch? Yes, I have had similar exp., also w initial sense of feeling better. To understand what happens w your type of bronch, find out which of the three forms yours is. What it does sound like is that what is referred to as a ‘plug’ has loosened – could be from the smoke/cough irritation, also causing a small bleed (haemoptysis), hence the ‘scab’-looking bits. Haemoptysis is more common in some forms of bronch than others. The plug, which holds much of the source of inf will relieve your body from that continual production of infx. However, the nature of bronch is that mucous is more productive, cannot be removed because of damage to the cilia, and drains into the lower lobes / outer pockets and there forms sputum – ie infected mucous. Bronch can also become cystic ( I have one in middle R lobe), which are anaerobic therefore abx doesn’t infiltrate well via oral abx. I am saying this because part of the nature of bronch is that is it slow and gradual, and your body actually becomes used to the low-grade constant infx. By the time it really starts to affect you, it has become hard to treat. Pls see your doc, ask for CT scan, which will verify if what I described above is happening. Forewarned is forearmed, and I feel I’d have better health now if I’d had someone help me even as recently as 6 yrs ago. By that, I mean a switched-on doctor. I understand your reticence with the meds, and investigations, but so far, nothing I have heard or seen indicates that this ‘goes away’ - better chances with cancer! For health when you’re older, please do e’thing you can now, while there’s a chance to catch infx early. It’s the cycle of infx which worsens the condition, becoming a downward spiral. The best bet is to avoid, then quickly squash inf. I hope I haven’t scared you, and I don’t mean to dump on you. Enjoy the energy, but do be watchful... joy
Guest guest
Joy Thankyou for the great explanation. I do have Bronch and was finally diagnosed in Oct., 2007 via a c-scan. I have cyclinder in both lower lobes and in the middle of my right lung. I have been doing lots of reading, and so far had not read anything about a plug. What you have said makes lots of sense to me. Do you have any suggestion where I might read about these plugs and for that matter information about what type I have? Are you suggesting that I should be treated with anti's from what I've descibed to you? Appreciate your input, and I will discuss this with my specialist. Thanks, so much Re: Question for Anyone in the Group? Hi ,Firstly, have you been dx bronch?Yes, I have had similar exp., also w initial sense of feeling better. Guest guest
, ‘plug’ is a term I have picked up from doctors. All it means is - mucus forms, solidifies in a section of the lungs and effectively plugs airway to the lung-sac beyond, which creates an anaerobic environment for bacteria or fungi to have a very happy time, and for you, not a happy time! If you have greenish/dark/dirty looking sputum then yes, you probably need antibiotics (abx). I resisted abx for many years too long, but the more infections you have the more damage is done to airways, more bronchiectasis ... There are websites and info, but best if you know what pathogen is involved, how long, etc before swamping you with too much...! There is a life to try and live in the meantime... Guest guest
Sandie, This sounds good. I'll speak to my doctor for him to arrange a script for me to attend a pulm rehab. Will exercises help with my difficulties in sleeping? I'm struggling in sleeping at night, could some one be of any help in this regard. I don't want to take sleeping pills because I understand that one can become addicted. Regards Beatrice Sunniesback55@... Those of us w/lung issues should participate in a Pulmonary Rehab program vs a gym. Simply because of our 02 SAT levels, heart, etc. Pulm Rehab is equipped to monitor you while exercising..they have medical staff there as well as all the equipment you need to do what you want to do. They also have 02 if you need it. They also teach you more effective ways to breathe and about your disorders.. You'd need a script from your dr to go to Pulm Rehab..insurance and/or Medicare pays for this service and it's well worth it. ...and that's my 2 cents.
