Guest guest
Chase is not overweight. He's always fallen in around 50-70% on the weight chart. At times think he weighs too much, but that's me getting tired, . It was very easy in the beginning with food to watch what he ate with the baby food products, but now it's a little harder since he doesn't have all his teeth in to chew the tough items. But he pretty much eats everything that we do, and we try really hard to eat a well balanced diet. My husband and I have our weakness for soda, but only keep 1 two liter bottle at once in the house and it has to last a week before we get another one. Chase hasn't had soda, and I don't plan on him having any until he's much older. As far as exercise goes, we noticed that he started slimming down when the crawling picked up. We've noticed that he is getting hungry more often and wanting more at a sitting since he's no longer army crawling and does a speed crawl (it seems) and is pulling up and trying to climb too. We try to make sure to give him healthy snacks and this helps us to eat healthy too. LyndsayThe most wasted day of all is one in which we have not laughed. Guest guest
Hi Lyndsay It is great that you are starting Chase out with healthy foods. I think the main key is to begin with healthy eating habits and then as they grow older and have the possibility of being overweight then they have a better chance of it not happening. All of my kids began to loose that baby fat once they started crawling and walking. Which makes sense because without exercise you are going to gain weight! It sounds like Chase is doing great! Guest guest
Hi Jodie Most people with mosaic Down syndrome do not have the short stocky build. This goes back to if those chromosomes are in that area of the body. Tim is very short (about 5'2 " ) and a bit overweight but that is just lack of exercise. However, in his case he has a few cons against him. 1st: I am only 5'1 " on a good day! 2nd: Tim had an undected thyroid problem for many years and it stunted his growth. Thanks for sharing! Guest guest
lol well...it depends if you are a male or female LOL. Most males would like to be taller than 5'2 " ! It doesn't bother Tim though. However, his 12 yr old brother is now the same height as him, so it may bother him once Garrett gets taller! lol Kristy Bolduc wrote: 5'2 " isn't short !!!!!!!!!! guess I'm short huh? Guest guest
well , I am with you at 5'2 " - The genestic said that may be 5 feet! I said NO - she has tall genes in her! (Her father is 6'6 " ?!?!) And while they never measured my husband when he took her to her appointments - they measured me! I guess I don't fit the norm. Guest guest
Mahrya is average height, and thin. I am about 5 ft 7 and my husband is 5 ft 11. We are both the shortest in our famlies. Our adult children stand tall our 22 year old daughter is 5 ft 9, and our sons are 6' 1 " , 6'2 " , and 6' 4 " . Mahrya may not reach the height of her siblings, but she will not be short, she has legs on her up to her arm pits!! Guest guest
Hi I do think that the biggest key is exercise. Thanks for sharing! We have someone who has agreed to write the Parent's Perspective for our upcoming MOSAIC WORLD. This is a great article with some really good tips on excercise, diet and why people with Ds tend to be overweight. If for some reason this family decides they can not write the Parent's Perspective, I will contact another one of our respondents. We do put A Parent's Perspective in every MOSAIC WORLD edition. This article follows our " feature article " and the " feature article " always pertains to something about mDs. So, by October, we will be looking again for another Parent's Perspective! Thank you all who replied. Kristy Mommy706@... wrote: Kristy: Karlee is not overweight, but we do eat a healthy diet.? She does love chicken and ff, which is her weakness.? Guest guest
Although my little guy is only 3, he is very skinny and tall. He is only a head shorter than his 5 1/2 year old sister. His little legs are short though, so it's his upper body that is long. When we found out while I was pregnant with him about the MDS, we also found out that he is Mosaic XYY. The geneticists are not sure what that extra Y chromosome will do. They think it might counteract some of the MDS, namely the height and weight. Studies show that males with an extra Y chromosome tend to be tall and skinny! We shall see! Needless to say, he's a very rare little boy! Wouldn't change him for nothin'!
