I have asthma and allergies and possible VCD.

Before I left I did my pantenase in my nose. On my drive into doctor smell car truck fumes, throat started swelling. Start breathing exercises for VCD. Inhaled (fumes) does not work for this for me. Get to Family Practice Doctor for anti anxiety meds for VCD, My nasal passages are swollen almost completely closed. Throat is very tight and wheezing, heartrate is up. Nurse is preparing to do epipen (they used one 2 weeks ago when I was there). But I say no I will try to breath through it. 45 min later still breathing but things are getting a bit better. The swelling did go down in my nose on one side. No epipen needed.

Get to allergist, she tells me to take Allegra for allergies. They are going to do methocholine challege without the methocholine??? She said bring in what I am allergic to. Can't use methocholine my lung function tests are only 65.

She was kinda against the epipen use. They said take emergency inhaler first (just incase it is asthma) when having an attack (my symptom is throat swelling). I that doesn't work breath through it and relax. If I pass out that is fine. They said my vocal cords will open when I pass out and I will wake up. This sort of makes me nervous, what if I don't wake up. Who is going to take care of my 8 year old twins. Would you trust them?

Lynne

Went to allergist yesterday about possible vocal cord dysfunction. I also have asthma and allergies.

My Daughter was just diagnosed with this ,She has asthma too. We took her to asthma dr. who did pulminary funtion test and lungs were fine.so refered her to ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) Dr. Then went to visit speech theripst. and its a real simple thing u can do to get your breath back. 1) instead of enhaling, DONT 2) exhale slowly while making the sssss sound. 3) then take 2 sniffs through your nose.that will open up vocal chords to allow you to breathe.Hope this is helpful Becky>> Sounds like VCD to me. You should ask your doc. He/she will refer you to an > ENT who can diagnose. Then find a speech pathologist who can help you learn > breathing exercises to control it. >
