I asked this question on an Adrenal group:

" Question is, if adrenals are weak, can " that " cause issues taking

progesterone (or any sex hormone) supplementation in some women? "

The response I got was this:

" That I am really not sure of. BUT I do know one thing the experts

that I have read and firmly believe in say that Adrenals MUST be

corrected first in multiple hormone deficiencies, then thyroid, then

sex hormones, then Growth hormones. So, I imagine there is a reason

for that though aside form the thyroid/cortisol relationship and the

fact that BOTH thyroid and cortios will change the sex hormones, there

may be other reasons as well. "

I found this quote at:

http://www.fertileheart.com/articles/p.ar.endocrines.html

" (In) times of stress or conditions of chronic adrenal hyper-stimulation,

progesterone is capable of being converted into the stress hormone

cortisol. " " One way the body tries to compensate for Imbalances created

and exacerbated by the demands of stress is to overproduce key hormones.

Another way it tries to compensate is by converting sex hormones to stress

hormones "

Quotes from other sites:

" Progesterone helps determine adrenal reserve. "
