What is the good range for Serum Ammonia? Is this something I need to

specifically request at the SNF, or part of routine blood work? My Dad is now

on 500 mg daily of Depakote. It has worked wonders on his adjustment to being in

the SNF ... and I'm so thankful for that. No angry phone calls, no " go away &

don't ever come back " , no suicidal threats in over a month. His physical

weakness has gotten so much worse over the summer, he absolutely is where he

needs to be, and it's much better for him and for us that he is relatively

content being there. We were blessed when a larger, nicer private room opened &

they offered it to us - at the same price we were paying. Made the move Friday,

and now Dad has 2 windows, and a room that doesn't look or feel like an

institution. He was kind of helping/suggesting where to hang pictures, etc. and

commenting how nice things look (compare with this spring in the ALF, when he

was taking all " home-like " things off the wall -- he WASN'T

staying & didn't want us to try to make him like it!!!) Anyway, what do I

need to be watching for as far as the serum ammonia goes? Thanks - Susie
