The caffiene will help tremendously. It is a natural bronchodialator and has the added benefit of calming the jitters after albuterol.MadelineTo: asthma Sent: Sun, May 15, 2011 2:51:15 PMSubject: Re: 3 shots of

And it worked! I was so shocked. Just as I was headed to ER my good friend "why you don't try some expresso first"As I'm thinking to myself what does she know, she doesn't have asthma, but I went on and tried it and much to my surprise! Yep, around these parts we call it the C & C diet (chocolate and coffee). When you see me or someone else post that you will know what we are talking about. You can probably blame it on our weather here today...we have a system rotating counterclockwise over us. Ive been in clinicals all day so I hadnt seen outside weather...but it does explain why Ive been coughing more today than I was.

And I didnt have any C & C to take in either...wahhh.

I have been suffering from asthma for 7 or 8 years and this is the

first time I ever heard that expresso helps. I have done some

research and have learned that coffee (CAFFEINE) is a remedy for

asthma which I never knew about.

I lost most of my teeth from using albuterol inhalers when I could

have been simply drinking more coffee. Coffee is my favorite beverage

but I usually make it weak when I could have been using it instead of

the inhalers.

This afternoon I have been taking a sip of coffee every time I feel

the urge to use an inhaler and it works perffectly. Expresso is not

the only way to get caffeine.

Why didn't my doctor tell me? He recently told me that I do not have

asthma but actually have COPD.

My doc didn't tell me either. Just know that the coffee may not be the be all and end all. You will probably still have to use your albuterol. However, it definitely helps.MadelineTo: asthma Sent: Fri, May 20, 2011 12:03:27 AMSubject: Re: 3 shots of expresso

Willothewispl here, I drink a lot of green tea, iced, hot, you name it, I drink it. I like black tea also. I just love the smell of coffee and expresso, but, cannot seem to drink it, too bitter for me. But, I will remember, if I am an asthma pinch, I will drink the expresso, thanks for the tip.To: asthma Sent: Fri, May 20, 2011 11:44:53 AMSubject: Re: 3 shots of expresso

It really did work for me for a couple of days. I did end up having to go to ER on wednesday. Because I ended up catching a cold. But for the most part the caffeine helped me a lot. Went to star bucks got an extra shot of expresso in my skinny mocha cafe and I felt a lot better. ;)Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerrySender: asthma Date: Fri, 20 May 2011 08:37:53 -0700 (PDT)To: <asthma >ReplyTo: asthma Subject: Re: 3 shots of expresso My doc didn't tell me either. Willow the tea should help (except the green tea and any other decaf blends). It won't be as effective as the caffeine levels are not near as high. Mt. Dew has more caffeine than coffee....so that may help you. Caffeine is a smooth muscle relaxant...and your airways are made of smooth muscle. Like Madeline said, it probably WONT eliminate the need for the inhaler all together, but it can help if you are out and dont have one with you, and allow you time to get to one.

It would obviously depend on the amount of coffee used per cup but

here is a website which indicates the amounts of caffeine.

I still think it is a crime for doctors to push their drugs for asthma

when coffee will help so much.

You can also buy caffeine pills at the drugstore.  I don't know what the brand is, but probably something like " no-doze. "   Just in case you want to know how much you are taking...or if you don't want to drink coffee or tea (snicker!)

Coffee will not always be effective. Caffeine is a WEAK bronchodilator. Its just another tool in the box that we have...

The crime is in not prescribing what will prevent most asthma attacks...and that is controller meds.

But if coffee is effective why should I and my insurance company pay

up to $1000.00 per month for " controller meds " . Plus seven hospital

Ora,I don't want to be rude here, but please stop and listen. I would feel so bad if you got in trouble with this. As, Anne stressed, caffeine is a very WEAK bronchodialator. It will not stop or prevent an asthma flare/attack. It WILL supplement your controllers and rescue meds. It does help but is not the answer on its own.MadelineSent via DROID on Verizon Wireless Re: 3 shots of expresso>>>>>> >>>Good thing as I cannot drink coffee. Never have. Thanks for your concern but I have no intention of using coffee only.

Coffee is not the best thing to drink before bedtime but I do intend

to drink it in the morning and afternoon as needed. I was making it

relatively weak (three rounded Tbsp per (10 cups) pot of coffee but

plan to make it a bit stronger so it will affect my asthma.
