Hi Kay,Tried texting you earlier. Sorry I didn't get your first message. Are you feeling better today? I imagine the difference you feel with the nebs at the hospital is the addition of the oxygen. When my asthma is flaring, oxygen does seem to soothe me a bit, even if my sat's are good. Since I have oxygen at home, I run my treatments off the O2 tanks instead of through my nebulizer. It is more effective.MadelineTo: asthma Sent: Tue, January 11, 2011 8:58:51 PMSubject: Trip to the ER

Well I made a trip to the ER last night. Went right after work, I got there about 6:45 and didn't leave until 11:00pm.

This was my second trip to the ER and I just wasn't getting any better. When i went the first time about two weeks ago.

For some reason I just couldn't get rid of the cough and the nebs at home JUST didn't do the trick at all. I even took my nebulizer to work and did treatments throughout the day and still felt bad.

It's like the medicine in the home nebs just don't do it. But as soon as I get to the ER and get their nebs I feel so much better my sats was 90 but after one treatment and 60mg of predinisone, I felt 90% better. And my sats got better.

No xrays (unfortunatley) I get so many xrays and CT scans that I am just worried about getting so many xrays.

The doctor ended up giving me about three treatments, and sent me home with Benzonatate pills; allegra, flonase and a z-pack. wow!

I could open my own CVS pharmacy with all the medicine that I have in the house.

So far so good today I haven't had a treatment but still using my inhaler alot. The doctor told me to use a spacer since I have that darn HFA inhaler that doesn't do squat really.

I have got to get better between the asthma, depression and anixety this just getting on my last nerves.

Thanks for listening (well reading) LOL

Kay

Kay are they giving you straight albuterol in the hospital or are they giving you a duoneb treatment which is albuterol and ipatropium together? That may make a difference as to why the ones at the ER work and home doesnt. I sure hope you start feeling better soon. I picked something up New Years Eve and it just finally left my head...although I think my eyes have a cold now. They are itching incessantly..but without drainage or anything else.

Anyway...something my doc told me with the flonase... When you spray it in your right nostril, hold the bottle in your left hand and kind of angle the bottle outward so it sprays the outside edge of your nostril. Use the same technique for your left nostril, holding the bottle in your right hand. Believe me, it made a difference for me...until I got this darn cold, using any nasal spray wasnt worth it b/c I was going through so much kleenex.

Feel better soon..

This may be a silly question, but how do you hook up your nebulized to your oxygen? I have oxygen at home too.

I have the duoneb at home and they also gave me that in the hospital as well.

And I'm trying your suggestion on how to use the nasal spray, so hopefully that will help.

I have to start using my neilmed rinse to. Sometimes that makes a difference.

Thanks
