Yellow #5, tartrazine, or E102 food color causes horrible hives in some people. http://tiredthyroid.com/asthma.html It IS in Captain Crunch! No amount of antihistamines/medication will stop the hives until you stop eating it. Guest guest
Yes, it's in most processed foods. It would be interesting if you went through your pantry today, checked vitamins, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. and reported back how many things you found that had it! > > > > > > > > Hello all, > > > > Well I ended up in ER yet again today. Guest guest
Barb--very interesting site that you posted. Since I have asthma and am newly diagnosed hypothyroid, I got some good info. Thanks.. > > > > > > > > Hello all, > > > > Well I ended up in ER yet again today. Guest guest
And the weird thing is there are more. And I have been almost basically starving myself (sorry to say that) but I have been watching so closely. So not too sure its the yellow No.5....I woke up this morning (sunday) with new ones and the only thing I had eaten for dinner was a small salad with light dressing..Don't know anymore. I met with my doctor last week and I am getting my TSH checked; magnesium; vit d... This is just weird so for now I am taking hydroxyzine 25mg.But thanks to all for braining storming with me LOLHugsSent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerrySender: asthma Date: Sun, 1 May 2011 19:56:35 -0400To: <asthma >ReplyTo: asthma Subject: RE: Re: ER trip again... It might not be the Yellow #5 either. None of us here can say for certain what is causing the hives for Kay, and since this seems to be something fairly new, (although allergies can kick in at any time after initial exposure) there could be many different things going on. Stress/anxiety can bring on nasty hives too and that is something Kay has also been dealing with. Re: ER trip again... Did you not read my previous posts? Guest guest
Yes, yellow #5 is found in some brands of ranch dressing, and in some Italian dressing. You cannot trust your eyes, YOU MUST READ LABELS. It is also in many body lotions. It's entirely possible your hives are not yellow 5 related, but symptom-wise, that's what it's looking like, and you won't be able to rule it out till you read labels of everything you ingest. For me, asthma subsides till the next attack, but hives go on for days and days. That should be motivation enough to read labels. Oh, and you need to get more than TSH checked, that is almost always " normal, " when you can obviously be way off in your levels. Check FT3 and FT4.
