Guest guest
Yep, I actually hate to hear the lawn mowers. Because it goes up in the air, the pollution, weeds, pollen, and hangs outside my balcony, and I live on the 11th floor in my apt. And if I forget and go out, I am in the ER. I need to move, there is at least an acre of grass around my apt, and all over the hills are houses with long, long, lawns. I really need to move. To: asthma Sent: Sun, April 24, 2011 4:43:41 PMSubject: ER trip again... Hello all, Well I ended up in ER yet again today. It seems as if I'm going every two weekes or so. Guest guest
I recently cleaned out lots of old records from my file cabinet, and came across my allergists report from about 10 years ago. I completely forgot, I am allergic to trees, pollen, weeds, grass, mold, cats, and dogs, especially Labradors. Shocked me each one of those, there about 5 or six different kinds of each thing, that were checked, no wonder it is so miserable. I really love my brothers Labradors, but, I cannot hardly go to his house to visit. I can go if I stay out on the porch or deck, with a mask on, otherwise I am in the ER.To: asthma Sent: Sun, April 24, 2011 8:52:50 PMSubject: Re: ER trip again... We're in the same boat Willow. Guest guest
There is a food color called yellow #5 that triggers asthma and hives in some people. You just have to read all food labels and beware of anything yellow, orange, or yellow-green. I had daily whole body hives for months till I figured out yellow #5 was the trigger. You have my sympathy. http://tiredthyroid.com/asthma.html You should also seriously get your thyroid checked out, and by that, I mean more than a TSH, which is often misleadingly " normal. " http://tiredthyroid.com/tsh.html http://tiredthyroid.com/what-labs.html Barb > > > > Hello all, > > Well I ended up in ER yet again today. Guest guest
Real turmeric is naturally yellow-orange, and should not be the culprit. I know in Chinese food the yellow #5 is sometimes in the noodles, sauces, and even in the soup to make it more yellow! If you start reading labels of everything you put in your mouth, you would be horrified how many things have yellow #5 in them. I thought I'd eliminated it from all food I ate, but still had very low grade hives. Then I checked my toothpaste--sure enough, it was in my Crest toothpaste! Guest guest
Dittos! I'm very allergic to every kind of grass, a fact I only learned a few years ago. That diagnosis explained a lot. Before that we occasionally went for walks in the countryside and I was always puzzled: just about the time everyone else was waxing poetic about the wonderful fresh air blah blah blah and how healthy it was to suck it in blah blah blah I'd be getting the shakes from all the meds I was overdosing on and I'd still be gasping for breath. Anyway, have you tried cortisone cream for the hives? I get prescriptions for that from my dermatologist and it works really, really well. > > We're in the same boat Willow. Guest guest
You'll all have to move over here - we have very strict regulations on when and where colourings can be used. My sister was rather shocked at the colour of the Fanta in McDs when she went to New York with school. It was apparently considerably more orange than it is in Europe. Even blue smarties got the heave ho several years ago because they were the only colour left that used artificial rather than natural colourings. Guest guest
Kay maybe you need to change up the antihistamine....after a while I build up a tolerance to them and they are worthless to me so I have to change about once a year to something different. Sorry you had to go to the ER again....I hope youre feeling better today.Ann ER trip again... Hello all, Well I ended up in ER yet again today. It seems as if I'm going every two weekes or so. This time it was my asthma along with lovely Hives... what in the world could have cause this again. I thought i was done with the hives from last summer. Please Lord, I can't got through this whole entire summer dealing with hives... So of course the doctor gave me salmedurol (msp) through the IV and benadryl which helped alot. But the funny thing is I was already taking allegra-d.. but as well as the asthma, hives, my ears are sooooo clogged, doctor says its fludid behind the ear drum (boo---hoooo) I mean really. I have so much congestion in my nose and ears, chest... and I'm taking. Asthmanex, Advair, flonase, allegra-d I mean is there anything left on the shelves at CVS? NO, because I have it all hahahh LOL. Anyway, needed to vent. And thanks for letting me. Hugs Kay in land p.s. just great! someone is cutting their grass now... just lovely.... Happy Easter! Guest guest
The other day I was Googling inactive ingredients in the various meds and supplements I take to find out which ones contain microcrystalline cellulose. In the process I happened to find that generic clonidine, a med I take for blood pressure, contains yellow #5. It also contains mcc, as do over half of the various pills and capsules I take. Even my Vitamin D3 contains mcc. I wonder why it's in so much stuff these days. Whatever did drug makers use as filler before mcc was developed? Slats > > Real turmeric is naturally yellow-orange, and should not be the culprit. Guest guest
Well, at least I know why you didn't answer your phone (p.s. you should clear your messages - it won't let me leave one). I have been worried about you all day. The food could be an issue. I have trouble with some curries (not all curries - just some).MadelineTo: asthma Sent: Sun, April 24, 2011 10:59:30 PMSubject: Re: Re: ER trip again... Guest guest
I think it's for the blue or green stripes? I also found out the multi-vitamin I took daily for years had a yellow #5 coating. I always wondered if that was what sensitized me to it. Many children's vitamins are multi-colored. > > > > > > > > Hello all, > > > > Well I ended up in ER yet again today. Guest guest
I googles Yellow 5 to see what it was, as our colourings all come under a different classification system. We call colourings and additive 'e numbers' as they all start with the letter E, followed by a number (I think the E means it's allowed within the EU)We know it as tartrazine, and it's something that has become increasingly rare recently. It's also why Mountain Dew disappeared suddenly from our shelves years ago, and has only recently reappeared, presumably using colourings permitted. Apparently tartrazine was phased out completely in the UK in 2009. It's banned in Norway, and was in Austria and Germany but the EU overruled this (Norway isn't part of the EU)That maybe explains why things like Fanta are a lot paler in EU countries. Certainly orange squash is paler than when I was little, when it generally contained tartrazine. Jenn Tha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! Don't brand me, don't classify me, don't tell me what to wear. I'll be who I want to be, and I'm proud to be me.Subject: Re: Re: ER trip again...To: "asthma " <asthma >Date: Wednesday, 27 April, 2011, 19:37 I went to get my xolair shot today!! Guest guest
Did you not read my previous posts? Yellow #5, tartrazine, or E102 food color causes horrible hives in some people. http://tiredthyroid.com/asthma.html It IS in Captain Crunch! No amount of antihistamines/medication will stop the hives until you stop eating it. I have been there, and you have my sympathies.
