Professional Member

The Herbal Medicines Advisory Committee (HMAC) advises the Licensing

Authority (UK Health Ministers) on the safety, quality and efficacy of

herbal medicinal products for human use which are either eligible for

registration or are unlicensed.

The HMAC are currently looking for a professional member. This represents a

unique opportunity for relevant professional people to become part of the

body and contribute to its work which is vital to public health and safety.

Applicants should have wide and recent experience in the area of

Phamacognosy, Phytochemistry and quality assurance of herbal medicinal

products including analytical methods, whilst being recognised by their

peers as eminent members of their profession.

In addition all applicants will be expected to comment and actively

contribute to the work of the HMAC and, have previous or current experience

of advisory body membership, be competent in critical appraisal, be a

skilled communicator and able to assimilate complex scientific information

quickly.

Members receive up to £275 for preparation and attendance at meetings. You

will be required to attend all scheduled and unscheduled meetings and be

present for the whole meeting. The initial appointment will be for a period

of up to 4 years.

Closing date for applications: 12 noon on Tuesday 2nd March 2010.
