Hi Everyone,

I thought I'd let everyone why I've been so quiet. I was supposed to have

surgery next Wednesday, June 23. I had a new shunt placed last December. I

developed an infection and had it pulled in Jan 2010. The infection was due

to Mastitis. The Mastitis was an old infection that had walled off in scar

tissue and when the catheter was placed it ran through the infection.

My primary has been giving me antibiotics every time the infection came

back. It came back approx. in March, in my clavicle, I had a local general

surgeon open up the red area over the clavicle to let it drain. This past

weekend I took a shower and it opened up and quite a bit of pus drained out.

My pcp wasn't in so I saw another doctor. He told me I couldn't have my

shunt surgery and placed me on another antibiotic.

I saw a general surgeon the next day and talked to Dr. B. We both decided it

would be easier to have a surgery locally to remove all the left over shunt

parts. The local general surgeon isn't thrilled about doing the surgery.

Both surgeons would like to talk when their time allows it. During that time

I'm having films sent from North Shore.

I can't have surgery until the infection is totally cleared up. I was really

ready for the shunt. The reason I didn't have it replaced sooner is because

the incision on top of my head didn't heal until now. I saw my wound care

doctor yesterday and she said I had graduated.

Thanks for listening to me ramble.

Kathleen
