Guest guest
, I think you are right! It's not the children's fault there's no money, if it's part of the curriculum, then they better find the money somewhere. Especially if that stuff is in their IEP's...sounds like they are serious business and violation of them is against the law from what I " ve learned here on the list. A friend of mine was asking for my advise about a situation with her son's special ed class. is in 8th grade, has down syndrome, and is in a special ed classroom with 7 other students (I think four of the students are new to the class this year). Two of the students are in wheelchairs and two of the students have seizure disorders. Some are tube fed as well. There is one teacher and one aide in the classroom. The class is a life skills class and typically has included going on field trips every week to learn life skills in the community. Recently they have cancelled all field trips because they cannot afford to hire an aide to assist the class while on these trips and they feel that it is not safe to go on the field trips without extra adult supervision. We both agree that it is not safe to go on a field trip with extra adult supervision but we don't think that changing the curriculum of the class because of a lack of funds is an appropriate solution. It sounds like a violation of all of the children's rights. What do you guys think?
