wonderful article on selenium bj. since i've joined this group i've been

taking 200mcg daily. i'm really pleased to learn from this article how very

important it is. i'm still collecting info and trying to find out what to do.

my endo put me on 12.5 mcg of synthroid. it caused insomnia, hightened

anxiety, forceful heartbeat etc. so he told his nurse to tell me to stop

taking it. (he's too busy to have pts come in and talk about anything until the

next appt 3 mos away).

i read somewhere that i should not have stopped taking it and just treated the

symptoms until my thyroid adjusted to it.

i told him that when i finally got in to see him and he was highly insulted.

so last week i saw my cardiologist and he said he would treat me and start me on

a lower dose. i couldn't read his handwriting and when i pickied up the

prescroption i see he ordered 25 mcgs. he's chinese and i have difficulty

getting him to understand what i'm saying. i guess he didn't hear me

correctly.

i cut the pills in half twice and decided on my own to just take 1/4 or

6.25mcgs. that's half of the amount my endo ordered that i was taking when i

got those symptoms. my next appt with my cardio

is in 2 wks so i'll see what happens with that. do you happen to know just

how little can be taken per day?

i'm taking the glutathione(spelling) too, since i listened to dr. haskells

video. he also recommended zinc and another mineral i can't recall. i have

all written down, but not with me right now.

thank you again for your help and any information you can share is much

appreciated. lois

Hi Lois - just a quick note - so glad to see you taking charge! Expecting a

patient to wait for an appt. 3 months away is just ridiculous. So good for you.

No amount of thyroid is too little to start on - here's an article on a doc who

had a liquid thyroid solution compounded so patients could start with just a

drop or two at a time and titrate up:

http://thyroid.about.com/cs/expertinterviews/a/langer.htm

I don't know why more docs don't do this.

I think your plan sounds reasonable - just pay attention to how you feel. Good

luck!

  • 2 weeks later...

last cortisol level was within normal limits. i haven't yet tested my feritin

level so i will ask for that next visit. sounds like your thyroid problem is

so much more severe and complicated than mine is. it's just amazing to hear

you're story and how you have saved your life. good thing you're so

intilligent and that you do the homework. i give you a lot of credit for

helping yourself and your daughter as well. thank goodness you have found a dr.

who's a keeper. seems like you're smarter than most docs ive met!

my t3 was withing normal limits too on my last test. i have to check dr.

haskill's notes again on that coz he has a different take on what is and is not

normal.

thanks for sharing your iodoral with me. that helps a lot.

i am dealing with another health issue at the same time, so i might be slow to

finishing my research on my hashi's for a few wks depending on what the other

doc says.

everything at the same time. so much fun. thanks again! lois
