Guest guest
Hi n, Do you mean heartburn? Or nausea? I don't think they are preventable, as the first happens due to the pressure from the foetus and the second is due to hormonal changes. Both treatable, though. There has been quite a few pointers in the archives over the years, like slippery elm, ginger etc. Eating small, frequent, light meals helps as well. Guest guest
Hello n, I have had success with digestive enzymes for bloating, flatulence and the general feeling if 'indigestion' in early pregnancy. Guest guest
Slippery elm is indeed good for the heartburn. Peppermint and chamomile help with nausea but should be avoided or only used in extremely low doses in cases of heartburn as they will make matters worse. (As well as being exaccerbated by pressure of the foetus, heartburn in pregnancy is primarily due to over-relaxation of the oesophageal sphincter due to high levels of progesterone). For nausea of pregnancy I use a mix of Ballotta, Matricaria and Zingiber, to be sipped in water, frequently or as required. It's also important to keep blood sugar levels as stable as possible.
