Guest guest
Dear a, I am not sure about the salicylates and asthma connection, but I would not worry about Filipendula - the amount of salicylates is tiny! You get as much (or more) in a lot of fruit/veg, also salicylates is a large family and have very complex metabolism so they are not much for muchness (certainly aspirin should not be compared as it as an artificial compound). Subject: asthma and salicylate containing herbs To: ukherbal-list Date: Wednesday, 21 April, 2010, 19:58 Â I was taught that one shouldn't give asthmatics salicylates so have been spending a fair amount of time looking for good salicylate free anti-inflammatories for a patient of mine who is both asthmatic and arthritic. Today I had a new client who is again both asthmatic and arthritic and his GP had told him to take aspirin for the arthritic pain - is this just a very unthinking GP or has the advice on salicylates and asthma changed or does it depend on the type of asthma or ...? Does anyone here know? Both clients are in their 70s if it makes any difference. Incidentally I eventually gave the first client a little Filipendula in her mix - which worked really well for both pain and ongoing digestive problems and did not exacerbate her asthma one jot - but perhaps I was just lucky. a
