Guest guest
HI , I live in Toronto and do know that the AD Society here in Toronto has a lot of resources that you might want to tap into. Also, has your mom been signed up with CCAC? Courage (unknown) Thank you for your suggestions. If there is anybody in the Toronto, Canada area I would be interested to hear from them re organizations which provide volunteer care and those that have had experience with alarms used to notify when a patient leaves the bed. Guest guest
Gladys, Loved your explaination for depression. I will use that again and again. Thanks and Hugs, Donna R Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in a nh. She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine. (unknown) Hi, My name is Joney and my husband Calvin has LBD. He is 63 and has been diagnosed less than a year. Most of our doctors assumed that he had Parkinson's disease until last April. We made a temporary move into my daughter's home and he began to have serious delusions and hallucinations. We got a new doctor at that point and he was able to diagnose the LBD and change his medicine from Mirapex to Senemet. He also takes Seroquel and a medicine that helps him sleep. My biggest hurdle is adjusting to the symptoms of the disease. From all I am reading at this site he is doing very well, but the fact remains that he has LBD. The LBD web site has been a God send for me. It has helped me undersand my husband more. There are so many facets to his behavior changes that I was blaming on " stuborness " or willfulness that I now realize are symptoms of the disease. That has helped alot. I just read the article about depression among caregivers and I realized that I have some of the symptoms of depression. I hate that most of all. I have always considered myself optimistic and full of faith. I depend on my faith in God for everything. Depression seems so self indulgent. I don't have the disease - he does. But the web-site and the messages are helping. Thanks for being there for all of us. Sincerely, Joney __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Joney, Welcome. I am out of the cg phase. It has been 5 years since Mom died. I had her with me for 3 years and one year in a nh. You are still optimistic and full of faith, and depressed! You can be all those things. But I so recognized the " is Mom (your husband) just being stubborn. " He isn't! He is also struggling. They seem to know something is going on and can't figure out what it is and how they can cope. I hope we can give you a pat on the back when you need it. He is so young to have this disease. And your goal is how to best help him live the rest of his life. We have lots who can share because they are going through it too, or have been through it. Hugs, Donna R Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in a nh. Guest guest
A warm welcome, Joney. You have found the right place and right people. Everyone here is very kind and understanding. We lean on each other for moral support, and to learn from each other in every way we can. We tell our stories so that others can benefit from it. We are also training many people in the Medical Field. We are there just like you, so we know about depression. I, too, have always been a happy optimistic person, and also stay close to God, but now I am having to take Zoloft. For one thing we get cabin fever from being in doors so much with our health problems. And, the stress of having to take over all the husband's jobs around the house, as well as keep up with medications, Doctor Appointments, pay bills, and juggle a hundred and one things while caring for our beloved mates. I sure wouldn't do this for pay. But, gladly for love. Once again, a big warm welcome, Imogene Caregiver for my true Texas Gentleman Husband of 37 years. He has LBD with Parkinsonism. Guest guest
Joney: Welcome to the board where you will get lots of information and many listening ears, some advice, and a place to vent your frustrations and share the good times, although probably rare. I was interested in the medicines you said he was taking and noted that you didn't say anything about Aricept/Excelon/Namenda being used. Since his dx is fairly new, I would think that the doctor would definitely prescribe either one of the first two and then Namenda to be taken with that one. There have been many who have had great success with these drug combinations. My husband was on Aricept from 1999 through 2006 - after 3-4 years, it doesn't help as much, but they don't lose ground as they might if it is discontinued. Although many with LBD do use Seroquel, it's one that isn't as good for LBD, but also one that is better tolerated if it is needed. What sleeping aid is he on? Some of those can be not so good, either. Some report that the use of Senemet worsens hallucinations. It's a fine line as to what some can take with good results and others cannot. If no one has suggested it yet, there is a list of good/bad meds on the site (click Files and it will take you to the documents). It might be good to share some of them with your doctor, too. I also thought my husband was just being stubborn many times just because I didn't know what this disease did to its victims. After lots of research and reading the posts, it became clear that it is a part of the disease and that they can't control that. Again, glad you found a spot and hopefully you'll get lots of benefit from it. June (husband Darrell dx'd AD 1999; possible LBD 2006; died Nov. 2006; autopsy results - both AD and LBD. --- Joney Caudill wrote: > Hi, > > My name is Joney and my husband Calvin has LBD. > He is 63 and has been diagnosed less than a year. > Most of our doctors assumed that he had Parkinson's > disease until last April. Guest guest
Hi, Imogene My name is Dimpsy. Thank you for the welcome to the group. Not sure if she has LBD, that's very interesting didn't know until your group that there was more than one kind of Dementia. She dosen't have hallunications. I have had patients that do. I have only been told she has early onset. I have had patients that were combative. My biggest challenge at this time is getting her to take a shower. Re: (unknown) Welcome dear, what is your name, so that I can acknowledge you when you write? I am glad you found us. And, I hope you learn as much as everyone else knows, but not me. I know my own experiences which is not very progresses. But, I hope you feel as good about this List as I do. So kind, so helpful, and so knowledgeable. I well remember when I started using the computer. I type with just a few fingers, and am slow, but in time I have written a 360 page book for my family. So, do I love the computer or what? Anyway, you will be right at home on it, and many will be glad to help you. They will really help you with Lewy Body Dementia. Does your patient have LBD? Does s/he have hallucinations where they see people and animals although they aren't there? That is an early sign of LBD. These patients can and do sometimes become highly agitated, through no fault of their own. Some have been known to become violent. So keep reading and asking questions. Guest guest
Dimpsy, If she has LBD, she may be afraid of the shower and you need to go slower. Let her know she will have a shower " later,' and then ask if she would like to do it before or after breakfast? They need time to think about it usually. Then go slow. You can't hurry them or they get more scared. Hope this help. Donna R Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in a nh. She was almost 89 when she died in '02. Guest guest
Sounds like exercise induced asthma. I get out of breath in this cold air when I walk hard and fast. The cold air is kicking my butt but I'm dealing with it the best I can. If you use a nebulizer or inhaler, try using one or the other a few minutes before you walk. Guest guest
Hi Irene,I have vocal cord dysfunction. What you are describing sure sounds like a vcd flare. The vcd/asthma connection can be very hard to treat. First a vcd flare can cause an asthma flare and vice versa, and vcd does not respond to albuterol. VCD does respond well to nebulized lidocaine and some time the epinephrin may help. You should make an appointment with an ENT for diagnosis and follow with a speech pathologist for education and treatment.MadelineTo: asthma Sent: Thu, February 3, 2011 12:31:42 AMSubject: (unknown) i was confined for 6 days in the hospital due to my asthma. unfortunately now i am also allergic to my prednisone and ansimar. my Dr. said i am the only patient that he has who has this allergy to both meds. i can only take inhaled steroids, like budesonide. my controller is symbicort 320 and also meptin as needed. but what really bothers me beside my asthma is the tightness in my throat. my Dr. also added epinephrin on my nebulizer together with my budesonide, this somehow helped a bit on the throat tightness.i was discharged from the hospital for 1 week and 5 days now...but i still have the tightness in my throat. often i have hoarseness in my voice. yesterday bad wheezing!!! is this because i did not take prednisone or is it because of what i recently discovered VCD? I think I need a little more help getting on top of this crud. The one good thing is that I can sleep at night....but the early morning is rough.I need to get on top of this. Ann (unknown) Ok...I need to whine a little. I cant stop coughing. My peak flows are fine yet I have no energy. Im off the prednisone...didnt even feel like a giant walking bruise so much as I have in the past. My nose is running so much I want to hook up suction to it. I dont have any signs or symptoms of a cold other than this incessant cough and running nose...which is clear so that more or less indicates allergy vs infection. I "FEEL" congested in my chest....but theres nothing there to bring up or its settling. Its really affecting my ability to study....wah.Ann
Guest guest
Yep you need to get the crud taken care of. My peak flows are back up but I'm still coughing. It's one of those things I deal with when the pollen is bad. Guest guest
Thought it was just me. I am not feeling well either. Getting pretty tired of this stuff this year. Going back to the ER. Expect to be admitted.MadelineTo: asthma Sent: Fri, May 6, 2011 9:46:11 AMSubject: Re: (unknown) Yep you need to get the crud taken care of. My peak flows are back up but I'm still coughing. Guest guest
Sorry that you are having to go back to ER, but whatever it takes to get you back on your feet. I am having a hard time for this time of year. Wish I had kept a daily journal. Good Luck Madeline. Let us know how you are doing. Good Breathing... Guest guest
I've felt the last week or so like I've got tonnes of mucus in my throat. I think it could be the weather. It was overcast and really humid this morning, and I could feel my chest was tight driving into work. Though luckily the sun came out, so I was fine later onJennTha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! Don't brand me, don't classify me, don't tell me what to wear. I'll be who I want to be, and I'm proud to be me.Subject: Re: (unknown)To: asthma Date: Friday, 6 May, 2011, 15:46 Yep you need to get the crud taken care of. Guest guest
My chest has also been tight past 2 days. Weather has changed from hot to cooler, and back, so quickly it has been hard to deal with, plus the wind is blowing all sorts of stuff around. > > > Subject: Re: (unknown) > To: asthma > Date: Friday, 6 May, 2011, 15:46 > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Yep you need to get the crud taken care of.
