What type of specialist does a LBD patient see? My mom only visit's

her Parkinson's doctor once every 3 months. With each visit, her

condition is about 50% worse than the previous visit. Should she be

seeing another doctor? Thank you, Dane

Dane-

My dad sees a neurologist who prescribes both Parkinsons meds (Stalevo) and

dementia meds (Aricept and Namenda). He sees the doc about every 3 months

unless we are having problems then usually once a month.

my dad saw his general md,/internest and he saw a neurologist who specialized in

geriatrics. i believe others have seen geriatric neuropsycholigst, or even an

md that specializes in geriatrics. just a few for you to check on, hugs,

Just in the last few years are LBD specialist doctors starting to show up on the

scene. My husband and I are now in the process of making a move to the

Philadelphia area just so we can get access to a specialist who might understand

exactly what he is undergoing. Our experiences have been very poor, much as you

describe for your mother for the years we have been in the Veterans

Administration system. Now we hope to find more expertise at the PADRECC in

Philadelphia.

In the past we have seen neurologists, family physicians, researchers and

movement disorder specialists and am now looking forward to a better experience

with doctors who are acknowledging and studying the fact that LBD even

exists....I believe they are very few and far between yet, so whatever medical

provider system you are using, you will need to look specifically for a doctor

who understands and will listen/address your mom's individual concerns

specifically.

The very best to you in your search and support of your mom's needs!

Marie
