Good to hear you laugh Alice, and I thought it would have been because my post was peppered with all of those " really " s, as in " Valley Girl " vernacular. Oh well, just another night of too much Wine, and not enough Wimmen and Song, as our old pal Shadowcatcher would have probably lamented, not that I'm complaining about that though. Thoth -Theta Omicron Theta - 9 + 70 +9 = 88 = Sidereal orbital period of Mercury, 88 days. Yes, most religions have their roots in Astronomy/Astrology, so why is it do you suppose that all these Fundamentalist preachers want to keep treating their respective flocks like a bunch of " mushrooms " , fed a big pile of crap and kept in the dark, LOL! The answer is all too painfully obvious to me, because that's how its alway been. I personally won't be going to see Mel's spectacle of the day, because it is as Toni described it, just another sado-machochistic reinforcement of that same old crap, and I guess the Pope must think humanity is about a " Quart " low on that right now. Not that the principal behind that spectacle is all that unsound mind you. Anyone who know that to love someone usually entails a certain degree of sacrifice of one's coveted ass or assets as the case may be, as any parent will agree towards helping their children, as the most common example I can think of anyhow. Semantics/Languages/The Art of Writing/communication in general are stepping stones designed to ease the journey through Life, but one has to keep a wary eye on those stones, specially the slippery ones that only appear sound and solid. Word have a tendency to shift meanings or rather people tend to overturn traditional meanings of words to suit their own purposes, which is all too prevailent in today's fast moving, fast talking, society. Our society keeps moving faster everyday because it is being conveyed by that slippery substance called oil, and yeah, that fast moving, Mercury is another slippery fellow isn't he? LOL! Guest guest
Well spoke, Mutt. No, I won't be going to see the flick. The Religious Right has long been hoping to break into the cinema in some major LOTR -- POtter -- Star Wars way. Why? The power, the potential to obsess and indoctrinate. The merchandising! Left Behind just didn't do it. ( even sued the film company of it.) But now they have Mel. Many folks will see the Passion. It will open doors and make them hungry for more because of the emotions it arouses. It mainlines the unconscious. From what I've heard about the film, the Rabbi's are right to criticize its potential for anti-Semitism. It is anti-Semitic by nature. As brought up, divorcing the Christian Zionists from their need to manipulate Israel can only be a good thing -- but, O! the potential for this to blow up in everyone's face. They WANT a Rapture; that wanting is creating an apocalypse. And they aim to be the last people standing. They've created something sinister. I've felt it, living in those Red States where the glare it casts hits my heathen eyes at an angle to see it. And it's made me as crazy as Cassandra; it's slipped my hours and days from me, trying to understand it, to help people see it and -- above all -- to help people turn away from its power, its rape of Self. But I have no power, no wisdom. Jung has been the only one, it seems, to understand and see it coming. It's a sort of reprisal in his case. He'd lived through its dress rehearsal. Eusebius was Constantine's Goebbels. And now the art of propaganda in our time has hit sublime heights. It rules everything, and it's inescapable. We've made it our economic system. Our living. Mass culture. Mass mind. Like the ants and the lemmings, it's always been here, the 30,000 (really?) making the pilgrimage to the Temple. The outer mysteries activate it. The religious impulse is an unavoidable part of being human. The Divine Guest, the Daemon, the Genius: the highest heart of the Psyche itself. But now we have this time of a mass-mind twisting of the impulse into literal instinct on a massive level. The Fundamentalist Cult in the US is some quarter of the population strong .... Hitler came to power with just 14 % of the vote and his Brownshirt Free Republic firmly in place. That's all it takes. The only way to survive this -- and it's a sickness just now, damaging the whole earth -- is a massive getting beyond the literal. It's trying to happen. A psychosis is a symptom, the psyche's attempt to heal itself. Individuation Harry, is what will defeat Lord Voldermort. You and Toni put your finger on the suffering as an important feature of the religious instinct. The catharsis, the dying to the old self to be reborn to the new. I hear the faithful coning out of the movie saying we all killed Christ with our sins... that that is what they're projecting onto the spectacle. That jacks it all up to momentous potential, an energy gradient that can release an enormous power. Who is in control of it? If not individuals, whole and unfettered -- how dangerous. It can be moved, has been move, manipulated to do great damage. A Dark Age... a great sleep... I live on 7 acres in the mountains. This winter, I've had roses blooming in the snow . I keep thinking of what spoke to me in my Catholic upbringing. I was, after all, Confirmed by Cardinal O'Boyle. What did I take from it? Why am I not like Mel? From earliest times it was a liberal Catholicism that taught me that Christ is to be found in everyone by looking in their eyes, that their suffering is what is portrayed on the cross, that standing on the snake is love overcoming all. It was simple, because it was given to me as something symbolic from the start. Kids DO get it. I take it with me. I find it in all religions. The Jesus Mysteries says it is dedicated to " the Christ in you. " I think that says it perfectly. When I see the Virgin with the child on her lap, I say : AhHa. Her eyes. means sorrow. It's the symbol of each of us: our predicament in being human and having the knowledge that we will die, that we are born to lose all that we have loved so dearly. That knowledge: like Dionysus, Osiris, we are split into piece with it. It is unbearable. We go about our whole lives trying to deal with it. We ignore it, we deny it, we distract ourselves with shiny things, bigger toys, better lays, bigger cars, more important titles. But it's always there. Only love makes any sense of it. Only love transcends and transforms. So the cross, if it can be mounted so that you are firmly centered in it, you can become the Stillpoint, the exactly heart of that quaternity: The Self, the time-defying love. *You become your loving.* If we die into that, we merely and always go back into and become what we came out of. We take with us what we are. Difficult times. Hang on, center the best you can. We have to love each and every shard of heaven as it falls to earth. The task of the age. Again: Jung wrote a letter on 9/14/1960, nine months before his death. There's little doubt he was speaking to us all. Excerpt: [...] my main tenet contains nothing more than: Follow that will and that way which experience confirms to be your own, i.e., the true expression of your individuality. [...] None believes in the blossoming and unfolding of the individual as the experimental, doubtful, and bewildering work of the living God, to whom we have to lend our eyes and ears and our discriminating mind, to which end they have been incubated upon for millions of years and brought to light since about 6,000 years ago, viz. at the moment when the historical continuity of consciousness became visible through the invention of script. We are sorely in need of a Truth or a self-understanding similar to that of Ancient Egypt, which I have found still living with the Taos Pueblos. Their chief of ceremonies old Ochwiay Biano (Mountain Lake) said to me : 'We are the people who live on the roof of the world, we are the sons of the Sun, who is our father. We help him daily to rise and to cross the sky. We do not do this for ourselves, but for the Americas also. Therefore they should not interfere with our religion. But if they continue to do so (by missionaries) and hinder us, then they will see in ten years the sun will rise no more.' He correctly assumes that their day, their light, their consciousness and their meaning will die, when destroyed through the narrow-mindedness of American Rationalism, and the same will happen to the whole world, when subjected to such treatment. That is the reason I tried to find the best truth and the clearest light I could attain to, and since I have reached my highest point and can't transcend any more, I am guarding my light and my treasure, convinced that nobody would gain and I myself would be badly, even hopelessly injured, if I should lose it. It is the most precious not only to me, but above all to the darkness of the creator, who needs man to illuminate his creation. If God had foreseen his world, it would be a mere senseless machine and Man's existence a useless freak. My intellect can envisage the latter possibility, but the whole of my being says 'No' to it... deborah
