Guest guest
Hi Char. My asthma can also be classified as RADS. I notice some very sharp chest pain when I am not breathing well. It sounds like something is aggrevating his asthma. It would probably be beneficial to see an allergist to try to determine what is going on. He may need to start on a long acting controller to help him at night. Hope he is feeling better soon. Madeline To: asthma Sent: Sat, November 27, 2010 2:07:35 PMSubject: Insomnia caused by Asthma? My son is almost 14 and has had RAD, a type of Asthma since birth. At birth the Asthma was made worse by acid reflex. But since 6 months old, he has been much, much better requiring little or no medicine. Since last summer he's been having a hard time staying asleep to the point he has to sleep in the car, at appointments, etc. I had a sleep study done on him. When the test was over, my son reported he had difficulties sleeping in the night because he had to sleep on his back because of all the equipment hooked up to him and my son also said that he can't sleep for long periods on his back or it becomes hard to breath with chest pain. I reported this to the nurse, but when I saw the doctor, he made no mention of my son's complaints. He said that my son slept very well in the night and took too many naps. So, the doc diagnosed him with Non-REM Narcolepsie because he didn't sleep enough during the day to fit Narcolepsie and they have to give it that name because if they call it what they want to call it, insurance won't pay for the meds. Well, that sleep study put my son on a med that with insurance is $90 a month. My son said this problem with chest pain and sleeping on his back has been a problem in the past but he never told me because he didn't think it was important or asthma. Anyway, I told him to try his Albuteral at least once a day. He's been doing that and he's sleeping just fine during the night since the test. I, myself, will have chest pain when I'm sleeping if my asthma is out of control too. I know that not a whole heck of a lot of people have this sort of Asthma. I also have read that there are like 7 types of asthma but my pulmonologist and his can't tell us what kind of Asthma we have. I guess it doesn't matter what kind so much.
