Guest guest
Hi Amy the biggest thing to learn and understand,, is that Modern Medicine is clueless and uneducated (by medical schools/residencies etc) on how profoundly *complex and common are " thyroid problems, including HypOthryrodism. thyrodi problems -and their cause = involve the whole body including the brain and espeically our hypothalamus as the 'head' of the Endocrine system, Immune system, Limbic System!, and our entire Nervsou ssystem which includes our entire Stress-system (SNS and HPA Axis and Sympathoadrenal system) and that is why RX literature has warned our doctors to assess our Adrenal glands for decades..and now why the concept behind the inaccurate name " Adreanl Fatiuge' is SO important.. you will have to educate yourself on what Thryodi Patient gourps are learning..and then go educat4e your self on the Complex FACTS about how the body works at the system levels, cellular levels and Molecular levels IOW to keep yourself safe, know that the Patients sites and even the GOOD Doctors are only looking at a simplififed 'model' of how the thryodi system is affected.. the more accurate picture of thyroid problems are that they are whole-body AKA neuroimmunoendocrine problems - and modern medical science , research and literature has DECADES of knowledge proving this.. WE are not utilizing this medical knowledge =and even the GOOD doctors are not learning and using to help restore our health faster (they are too busy to go do the research/learning !!) ==== How to proceed? do not be overwhelmed but learn the basics from the good THryoid doctors views. but THEN remember that YOUR specific set of Signs and SYmptoms can be caused by more than 1 underlying 'imbalance' so every 'solution' will not work for EVERY hypothyroid patient.. EX) not every hypothyroid patient gets Dizzy for the same underlying causes at the system or cellular level =so the " Treatment " can not be the same becuz 1 treatment " that works for 1 will cauwe another patient to get worse! EXample possible causes/solutiosn: some hYPOT patients need good * salt as their sodium is low on blood tests or their Water/sodium ratio in body is too high (Dilutional Hyponatremai) some folks are literally dehydraetd and don't have enough blood volume . some hypot folks have Inner_ear problems (common() and that is the cause of their dizziness... and all require slightly different 'treatments'AKA " lifestyel changes VS an RX_DRug " ============ and your Doctor will not know most of what he/she needs to which means you want to start learnign howt he body works from medical/science literature AND find out what 'treatments' helped many other pateitns who experiened specific sytmposm that you share.. you CAN DO IT just proceed smartly -Carol Good Doctor WEbsites to Start: THyroid: DR Rind DR Kharrazian (immune system focus ) DR Shames DR Teitelbaum(Focus was on CFS/FM but he includes HYPOT and " Adrenal Fatiuge " patients in his collective focus) " Adrenal Fatiuge " (silly name) DR Lam DR WIlson (his book is EZ to follow guidelines tho he is the Dcotr who COined the Name " Adrenal Fatiuge " ,, his writing is overly simplified the Problem to the point of COnfusion and Innacuracy =EG the probldm is with the Brain/HPA axis vs the Adrneals being the Cause. however his LIfestyle guideliens are EZ to read and do > > Hi Everyone! I thought I would take a moment to introduce myself. I am new to the board, as well as newly diganosed. I have been going through various testing for the last 2 months. About 18 months ago I had a blood test that came back saying my thyroid levels were low. The nurse pract. I was seeing ended up being a bit flakey. She was supposed to be really good with hormone stuff, in the end 4 of my friends went to her and she treated us ALL the same which was my first clue. Anyway I was doing good on the low dose of armour she gave me then I wasn't. So I stopped it about a year ago. I since have found a new GP, and upon my first visit for PCOS he mentioned that I had a goiter. I had never been told I did before. He tested my blood which came back normal, then sent me for a US, and it came back enlarged with a nodule on the right side. I went for a Uptake Scan, which came back saying my thyroid was enlarged and abnormal looking but the iodine showed my thyroid was working normally and the nodule was indetermanite. I went for a biopsy earlier this week, and during the biopsy the radiologist identified a second nodule. The biopsy is back and said that I have hashimotos disease. I go back Tuesday to talk to my GP about treatment options. > > I have NO CLUE what questions to ask or anything... is a GP fine to treat this or should I ask for a referrel to a specific type of specialist if he doesn't offer to refer me?? What do I need to know?? Anyone wanna give me a crash course?? > > I have had bouts of extreme fatigue for over 5 years now, like I can sleep 18 hours a day for days on end and still feel tired. I had been drinking lots of caffine to stay awake because I have 3 kids, one of whom is autistic. I have cut out caffine for almost a month now. Honestly it wasn't really helping anymore anyway... Then every now and then I will be fine energy-wise then crash again... it's frustrating. I have known something was off and causing this but am also overweight so the doctors I've seen always blame it on this... ANYWAY.... > > That's my story for now... :0) > > Amy >
