There are many sites where you can check drug interactions and side

effects. My favorite is rxlist.com, which says the following about

the interaction between Sinemet and Wellbutrin (bupropion).

" Levodopa and Amantadine: Limited clinical data suggest a higher

incidence of adverse experiences in patients receiving bupropion

concurrently with either levodopa or amantadine. Administration of

WELLBUTRIN Tablets to patients receiving either levodopa or

amantadine concurrently should be undertaken with caution, using

small initial doses and small gradual dose increases. "

(from rxlist.com)

The issue is that the Wellbutrin may cause carbidopa-levodopa

(Sinemet) to build up in the body and that increases the risk of side

effects and adverse reactions.

This was interesting too:

" Therefore, co-administration of bupropion with drugs that are

metabolized by CYP2D6 isoenzyme including...antipsychotics (e.g.,

haloperidol, risperidone, thioridazine), beta-blockers (e.g.,

metoprolol), and Type 1C antiarrhythmics (e.g., propafenone,

flecainide), should be approached with caution and should be

initiated at the lower end of the dose range of the concomitant

medication. "

few. She went totally delusional about 1 1/2 ago and I had to have

her admitted to the hospital. The first thing the Psychiatrist ask

me was why she was on Wellabrutrin since she took Sinimet? Well,

that was the drug her medical doctor switched her too. She had been

on another antidepressant prescribed by her neurologist by her

regular MD changed it to Wellabrutin because he liked it better.

Turns out there was a drug interaction between the Sinimet and

Wellabrutrin. The Psychiatrist even printed out the page where it

was listed as a possible problem. You might want to double check to

make sure the Wellabrutin is a good match with the Sinimet. My mom

was put on a different antidepressant and she was ok for a while. We

did have more problems later was the high dose of Sinimet which has

since been decreased to the lowest possible level that will do her

any good.
