Hello Jodi,

I've been on Gabepentin for several months now and it doesn't seem to help me

either as much as it did when I first started taking it, so I cut down my dose

to only two 100 mg. at night it helps me sleep...

Sorry for not getting back to anyone! I've had company for the last 2 weeks

(bro's not here right now, lol!). Anyway, the med doesn't seem to be working as

well as it was a few weeks ago. I'm taking two 100 milligram pills, 4x a day. At

first my pain decreased to a 2-3 but it back up to the previous 6-7 (on a good

day). I see the pain Dr. on the 20th and I'm thinking of asking for another

med...or am I not giving it enough time? It's been about 3 weeks.

Any suggestions?

Jodi

When I was on neurontin, I was taking 2400 mg a day to get rid of the pain.

Sometimes the dose must be a lot higher than minimum to do the trick. Once I got

up to 1800 mg, the pain was intermittent. At 2400 mg, I didn't feel any pain at

all. You might need a dose increase. You also might need a new med. It's hard to

tell what will work for someone and what won't.

Good luck!

Jodi,

I agree with . I think you need to give it some increases before

calling it quits. Especially if it did help when you first started taking

it. (although neurontin is not one of those meds that work the first day. It

is a med where it has to build up to a therapeutic level in your

bloodstream. This can take weeks). The two times I have taken it, I was up

to 2400mg. I was first built up to 1800mg - that was the low end they

considered therapeutic. I did get pain relief, but I was physically unable

to stay awake on any amount of the med. I would get up to a reasonable dose

before calling it quits. 3 weeks is long enough for the med to reach a

therapeutic level in the bloodstream, but you have to be at the right dose.

Most people I know that take it, take between 1200 and 2400mg (I would say

most average around 1800mg).

If 2 weeks at the higher dose (1800mg or above) doesn't work, then its time

to call it quits and wean off the neurontin so you can start a new Rx that

the doc recommends you try. Fortunately, there are a TON of different meds

that can be used to treat neuropathy. Unfortunately, they all have side

effects and they are all very slow to try (takes at least 2 weeks to

gradually increase the dose and 2 weeks to wean off if it doesn't work).

Most all the meds for neuropathy are the kind that have to be started and

stopped slowly.

Best wishes,

Jenn
