Guest guest
Hello Well that Pub Med article posted is more about laboratory methodology, than explaining interrelationships and the significance of ANAs in autoimmune disorders. It is a discussion of the further development and advancement of lab science in order to help create specificity and reliability at a rapid rate. Once the methodology is refined, then the connections and clinical significances of the results can be studied more in depth. The discussion of the use of patient controls, normal and abnormal is part of the development of laboratory standards. ANA elevation has been the subject of study for autoimmune disorders and connective tissue diseases for a number of years now. But ANA's can be elevated in infectious, liver and cardiac diseases as well as some cancers, so it is a very vast area of study. I hope science can soon make needed connections to further understand the complexities of the immune system as it relates to people like us with EDS and Marfans.
