Jeanie,

If they make a powdered version I could mix in his almond milk that would be helpful! My son will actually chew the DR. Ohiras which is AMAZING because he hates chewing anythign else. I guess because it has such a mild taste and texture that he does not mind. Im willing to try the Kirkmans!

Hello all! Sorry I have not been around much but been very busy with life. My son has been off of miralax since Janruary! It was very scary at first and we've had many difficulties when we took him off. We took him off cold turkey after telling the GAstro doc that we were not satisfied with the side effects, etc. He went to the bathroom regularly after that for several weeks....still in his diaper of course. He is three years old and two months old! We found that after the miralax had left his system and wore off that he had a HARD time pushing out the poo on his own even when it was relatively soft. He would become frustrated, etc. Almost like his bowels were paralyzed! We ended up using over the counter stool softeners, senna strips for another month and this is what worked for us for a while. Over time though my son got good at holding it in...this was our biggests struggle. He was having reactions to the pedi-lax stool softener so we took him

off of it. Little did we know that it contained a small amount of PEG and red dye which he is allergic to we just found out.I found myself feeling pushed to use suppositories, etc and it only took once for my son to realize that he would rather sit on the potty and try to go rather than have these awful things daily. So....that night after having a horrible fight with him and having to resort to an enema that night because he refused to poop in his diaper anymore....he cried as he announced that he wanted to try the potty! Little did I know that this was a blessing in disguise and now looking back I feel SURE that it was impossible to potty train him while on a laxative and he got so tired of pooping in his pants and us having to change him. He pooped in the potty from that day on! I have tried to drop all laxatives, etc but once he has had a hard poop things seem to reverse again. Fear sets in and then he starts witholding again. So this is

what we are doing at the moment that seems to be working:I daily give him a teaspoon of Bowel formula #3 by Dr. Schulze....which is an herbal formula to help with constipation and to prevent it. Seems to be working marvelously.Along with that I give him one capsule of colace daily which is just a stool softener without all the laxative stuff, stimulants in it. I think over time as he gets past the fear of going we can then take him off the stool softener, etc and gradually take him off the bowel formula as well. Along with this we are doing a really healthy diet with lots of fiber, juice, probiotics, supplements like aloe vera and daily potty sits. We do potty sits after breakfast and dinner. Some days he cries and does not want to go and then some days is fine! Im just so happy to be off the miralax this long. We will keep going and see what the next steps will be. We are doing antifungals, etc and working on his tummy issues. One day

hoping he will be home free! Once it warms up we will go all out with the potty training and train him to also pee pee in the potty instead of a pull up. This is a HUGE leap for us! We never want to go back to miralax or harsh laxatives.

From what I have understood they are not using the fungal part of the mushroom but the outer cells from the mushroom. Something about these cells actually gaurds/stops the fungal part somehow. I dont know the details/cant remember but something like that. But they are not using the fungal parts itself of the mushroom. Kinda like the jelly fish poison that can kill you but they have found an ingredient in the Jelly fish that has cures for human use(protects the poison the jellyfish has from killing itself(the jellyfish). I hope this makes sense somehow. Jennie<><

this COULD have been a clue for you marg, that you hit the

nail on the head...........if you saw a change then you know this is what you

need to address, sometimes things have to get worse before they get

better..............there are many factors involed like what the sweetner was

made out of, or how much you took...............maybe if you start low and

increase slowly, you may find a happy medium....................also try

different probiotics, you may have had something your body doesn't agree

also.........this is what I'm thinking. If you give the fruit-eze, it may help for the moment but one needs to be trying to heal what is broken, this is why I say it wouldn't hurt to give the probiotic to see if it helps so you are curing things as time goes on, not just giving laxatives and fiber................some parents find out after years of laxatives that unless you fix what is broken, (replenishing the good bacteria) you'll be on laxatives for longer than one needed to be................

but I thought you said it wasn't working? The kirkaman's worked with my dd after a decade of holding, after introducing the probiotic, she went without any problems..................the gas lessened and the behavior improved immensely! To this day, if she holds it, the behaviors come out..........and everybody look out!!!!

Jeanie,

The problem is....im not sure what is broken! We did have some test done a while back but everything came back normal. We are gonna be working with an allergist also to see if there are some food allergies as well. I really don't want to do anymore testing to find out unless absolutely necessary. What do you think could be the problem? I have no clue WHY my son can't push his pooh out even when soft.

I'll look further into the Kirkmans! I have to pass everything by my husband because if I don't he will see the credit card account anyways and know what I have spent. I don't think there is anyway getting around ordering more probiotics at the moment when I just ordered some. He would be pretty upset!

That's actually a good thing then! I think the issue with this probiotic is that since my son can't swallow the capsule and has to chew it and eat the insides that it's NOT reaching the intestines and colon where it should be! It probally is working in the stomache and doing it's job there but not getting down deep enough.

Cayce,

it needs to have some firmness or it doesn't tell the brain it's there..............try kirkman's soley...............I'm telling ya, it's unbelievable! When you are adding many things, you never know what ONE ingredient could be helping or hindering..............

I also forgot.............lets just say it's a lack of good bacteria so you add a probiotic.........BUT THEN you are adding herbs, the mushroom, acetic acid etc.

One ingredient could be defeating the purpose by adding some ingredient that doesn't agree with the system......this is why you introduce ONE thing at a time. Also, the xylitol in kirkmans works as a laxative...............so you are helping in both areas...............

Great points! I think im gonna cut a few things out to see what will happen. I guess we will never know until we try. I hate to cut out the Beta Glucan because that is what seems to be clearing up his eczema. It's just about non existant now that he's been on that, oregano oil, olive leaf!

Jeanie,

Ok....you have convinced me to try the kirkmans! Im gonna place an order at the end of the month. I have no choice but to wait now but I promise I will give it a shot! That's true about the stool being too soft and they don't know it's there. This is my sons issue....he doesn't know when he's gotta go so we do two potty sits a day. He's surprised when something finally comes out. Like there's no feeling there whether it is soft or hard! Confusing!

If you have soft poops, now is the time to add the juice plus fiber boxes, to bulk up the stool a little................trust me though, if you give a probiotic, the body normalizes itself.........if you're always controlling it one way or another with remedies, you still haven't acheived what you intended to do..................have it work properly on it's own.............this can only be done if the gut flora is balanced.........just like salt water fish, they can only survive when the conditions are balanced example, nitrites, nitrates, amonia, salinity, etc.

they make a childrens multi-vitamin called Ocean Wonders. I've taken the adult version Vita-Lea, that makes you feel awesome, makes your hair grow in days and your finger nails get hard and grow in days...............they are all natural, dried at 100 degree's so when they are processed, it doesn't kill all the nutrients. They are not suppose to be chemically processed but on the bottle is some ingredients I'd imagine are but I've never in my life seen a vitamin that works like this one does.

Also, they make a product called Herb-Lax, it's mostly alfalpha and it looks like they crushed it up and condensed it into a pill.........it's so natural

If this doesn't make one go, nothing will................

My mother introduced me to Shaklee 30 years ago, then NewLife and others followed..............they make a great product.

I'd try the kirkmans first though because if indeed it is a lack of bacteria, you need to replenish it to see if that might fix it first

Possible to much for children, but some say it is so strong it kills the good bacteria(this is controversal) but really does the job viraly/bacteria/fungal/yeast. Supposed to be the best for sinus issues. I would for sure add the probiotics with the oregeno. Jennie<><

This could be a nerve cell issue/muscle issue/no contractions etc or as Jeanie said needs more bulk for sensitivity response. With our son it is such a balancing act of trying to just get the write texture not to soft not to hard. After much thinking over time and wondering why with viral infections/allergies/allergic reactions why the gi tends to slow down even stop, viral etc releases mast cells greatly in the gi and this is an inflammatory response/infamatory causes motility issues. The inflamation is severe even more in those with larger/much more active mast cells in conditions such as pseudo's even HD as my son has etc. This also causes swelling/constricting of areas in the intestinal tract(motility issues). I suspect that the use of aloe juice with my son is why he has had such huge improvements motility wise. Aloe calms smooth muscles, reduces

inflamation, even some info on controling the release of mast cells. Jennie<><

Jennie,

Im wandering if I should bring up or mention the HD at our next appointment with the GI specialists? We are also going to see an allergists? What specific test should I ask them to do for food allergies, allergies that would cause such reactions in the gut, etc? We ordered a product called fruit-eze to help add bulk since my sons stools go from LARGE in diameter to pencil thin. Strange! IF I literally did not sit him on the potty twice a day....I don't think he would ever know he had to go some days. Some days though I can tell he's got to go potty and he knows it...so this is a good sign. I took him off the colace for a few days to see what's gonna happen. The 's aloe is not doing anything for him either....so we will be trying another type of aloe...maybe a stronger one and changing his probiotics to Kirkmans when we can. Im so desperate for answers. My son still has leakage issues as well...not too bad but it makes me suspect encopresis

maybe too. I just don't know where to go from here. I hate to put him through anymore testing! Im just not sure what we are dealing with now that he's off the miralax. Could be damage from the miralax itself.
