Guest guest
My friends son just died, he was 27 years old. Had Congestive heart failure, they sent him home and said he would be fine with some diet changes and the drugs they gave him. He was not feeling well and they said that was to be expected. They finally went back to the doctor because he just really could not breathe. They did not do much and sent him home. Turned out he had a massive infection in his heart caught during hospital stay and they did not realize until the autopsy. He suffered and died because the doctors said it was nothing to worry about. I believe Most deaths are drug related, either interactions, wrong drugs prescribed that type of thing. This can happen no matter what type of doctor they are, -- RE: : Statistics I have always wondered about this statistic. Based on this figure, the average physician kills someone every 6 years, yet I do not know of anyone who was killed by Physician negligence and I am 50 yrs old. I suspect that specific types of physicians have higher rates of injury or maybe there is a percentage (5%) that is responsible for 95% of all incidents. Just curious! Today, we automatically assume that with the proper machines or drugs, there can be no room for failure. The more we save, the more people are upset when we don't. On the other hand, why would a 27 year old person have congestive heart failure? What environmental condition would give him an old person's disease? Guest guest
I totally agree Tom, We do diagnose and know more about what is wrong today. At 27 he should not have had this problem but the statistics are showing that children even very young are now having heart disease. This modern day diet will kill most children before their parents are even gone. Mostly the parents were upset because the doctors ignored their sons original complaints that something was not right. They told him he would need to wait to the following week for an appointment. THis is why the parents did nothing until he was so bad and it was too late. Really sad story for sure. -------Original Message------- From: Nesler, J Sometimes our expectations of Medicine exceed reality. 50 years ago, medicine did not have the technology available for diagnosis and people were not so disapointed when the outcomes were bad. Guest guest
Ok, I just had to reply to this one! One has to remember that statistic can be very misleading. Without ALL of the facts behind the statistics (how the info was gathered, what is the definition of 'acciendtial death' for it to be counted, etc), one can come to MANY conclusions. That is the beauty of statistics - you can almost phrase it to give any meaning on one's adgenda. More importantly, what I think should be noted is that health should be OUR responsibility, not a doctors! Face it, most people are lazy and want the easy way out - " just give me a pill and make me feel better " . How many people have you heard say " oh, please let me change my diet with more fruits and veggies, less fats, processed foods and meats plus exercise to improve my health " ? There are some, but the numbers are few. Just look at how much the weight loss industry makes on prescribing pills for something that is almost completely controllable. Anyhow, I think pointing the finger at doctors isn't helpful, it is our responsibility to LEARN from doctors and to take control of our own health. We still have the right to agree or disagree with their treatments and tell them so. In addition, we have the right to fire them and get a second opinion! But in the long run, WE are responsible for our life - not doctors. Just my thoughts.
