Guest guest
Here is a natural method to prevent constipation. Have been using it daily for almost a year, have passed the recipe on to many people, and even took it to the hospital and the rehab place to give it to my husband. Grind up All Bran cereal in the blender. Then use 1 1/2 cups of the ground up All Bran l cup applesauce 1/2 cup prune juice Cinnamon to taste, and mix it together and take 3 tbls. a day. It really works. It isn't bad tasting either. Arlene ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Guest guest
Arlene, Do you give the 3 tablespoons of the All Bran/applesauce/prune juice all at once in the morning? or do you spread it out during the day? Thanks.
Guest guest
Fruit-eze has helped my husband with constipation. It is like a jam and I spread it on toast and crackers, he seems to like it and it helps a lot. It comes in a huge jar and will last for quite awhile. I even take some out of the huge jar and put it in a small plastic container and bring crackers and that to the nh and he eats it for a snack. It contains prunes, prune juice, raisins and dates, It's an all natural source of fiber. http://www.fruit-eze.com/ Norma Loeb/CORPHQ/NYTIMES wrote: Thank you for this! Zweibeers@... Guest guest
I read an article on constipation last night and was surprised at what this doctor recommended. He said that a lot of people that are constipated should not have any " oils " with there meals as this coats the stomach and keeps you from absorbing all the nutrients etc and causes the constipation to become worse. Has anyone ever heard of this? I use a lot of coconut oil, olive oil and butter with all my food. Maybe that is the reason that my constipation never gets any better. What do you people think? Guest guest
I think he's referring to mineral oil, a petroleum based oil, that's what they use....................and yes it's true for mineral oil, Miralax is even worse, a liquid plastic.....hmmm! Guest guest
I to think this mostly refers to mineral oils and as Jeanie mentioned miralax is worse! I havent come accross much info that olive oil and coconut oil are a problem, infact they claim to be very healing to the gi. Now as far as the butter I would be leary unless it is pure butter, not the hydrogenated forms(highly synthetic). Our neuro told us not to use the mineral oils due to what you mentioned, it coats the stomach and "intestines" and absorbtion of nutrients and especially medications are affected. We noticed a huge difference once we took our son off mineral oil(ped scripted) and the affects of his meds and even illness's. The gi is over 80% of our immune systom. This is one example of the coating affect of mineral oil(may be a little not so pleasant for some to read, sorry) but if my son would have a stool movement in the tub and we went to drain the water, the coating on the sides of the tub walls was thick with mineral oil and very difficult to scrub off, imagine the intestinal lining from this stuff. It took several months to clear this out of his systom and honestly not sure if any damage was done. We diffenitly seen improvements with medications such as antibiotics working(didnt work then), we now avoid antibioitcs but the point being they wouldnt work while on mineral oil. But I highly suspect you are ok with the olive oil, I am going to research more on it when I have free time, please let us know of any new info also. But do know the olive oil is very healing to the gi and body as a whole and some have good success with stool movements with them, but yet I too am very curious of coating?? Guest guest
Elsa, are you aware that there is a identified link between chronic intransigent constipation and sexual abuse? Useful link here http://cks.library.nhs.uk/constipation/management/detailed_answers/constipation_\ in_infants_and_children/assessing_an_infant_or_child_who_is_constipated/what_to_\ do_if_child_abuse_suspected NOT saying it is the case here, but sadly must be considered, especially in light of other findings. Also, administering an enema to child may result in a sense of having been violated, even if overt abuse has not occurred. She may be feeling objectified by all the poking and prodding at hospital, doctor etc. Sounds like the potty training issue is also an important part of the picture. Treat the emotions. Treat the parents/ carers to increase compliance. Sounds like a very tricky case. How about herbal baths? You say " Immediate BM is the parent's most urgent concern " ... Is the child with-holding as an act of anger? Control? These are just first thoughts Hope some of it may be of use Cristina >Hello all, > >I have seen a 4 yr old child with chronic constipation for 2 yrs >with bowl movements now every 2-3 days and only after Sodium >Picosulphite and glycerine suppositories use. Guest guest
Thanks Dalbinder and for your suggestions. Most grateful. I had suggested honey and baths, in addition to taking the child to play outside for the exercise and to get vit D. Sexual abuse as a cause for constipation did not occur to me, but I shall certainly keep it in mind at the next visit. Both parents came with the child and it was the father who did most of the talking and who rang me on a Sunday wondering if I could see his daughter the same day as a matter of urgency due to acute constipation and wanting to avoid ending up going at A & E again. The family came to see me first thing on Monday, the father taking time off work. We agreed that the parents will let me know how things developed, but I have not heard so far. Should I give them a ring?
