Guest guest
Kathleen and I discussed awhile back , that this topic of when IS surgery wise , and when ARE we better off to try other symtpoms mannagment approaches , is one we don't bring up enough . There are various view points = that medical view using the karnofsky score ( neurology scale ) - and the 70% or greater daily life impacts point ( are symptoms including pain limmiting you to 70% of normal or less in daily limmitations /efforts ? - then quality of life impacts may be tiping the scale into consider surgery's possible beneift's point ) -- but quite often in this when we REACH the knowledable neurosurgeon able to tell us what IS up here , and how he feels he MIGHT be able to improve our pain /limmitations ect . = WE loose sight of asking IS there another path NOW that might help achieve the same goals ? = and afterall - this is a neuroscientist surgeon were asking / they ARE going to think first =structural atonomical problem /leading to plumbing problem = fix = equals probablity vs risk this person will gain thinking . SOME will tell you right away IF you know /think to ask = gee yes , go get those paraspinal muscles in the best shape possible / BEFORE considering surgery = you will have an easier /better time of the healing phase if you can do so === YES , we do know = that doing this plus those lower back strenghtening of muscles /stretching gentle ect physical efforts will often improve both back pain /.and neck =base of the head pain = loose some weight at the same time ==and if your amoung those women with acm that's somewhat normal presure hydro inclined =and you may see that IMPROVE as well ( where both blood presure /and acm related head presure problems improve ) == gain better ballance and endurance in that warm water too =and a bit better cardiac functions = and gosh darn a LOT Of folks start feeling better === it can become the health care solution to a LOT Of acm related sorts of problems in reality -better overall health and wellness /less acm impact / and perhaps years gained without surgery's too . It's worth steping back and remembering to really consider trying it === that said , when MY acm got bad = I KNEW it was also what was getting worse and worse and worse = I COULD TELL ==and I knew when it WAS time to trust that conservative neurosurgeon Dr Batzdorf when HE could see on MRI " S it was progressing . I was right to go to that surgery too ==and did do remarkably WELL in recovering = quite visably well in reality = yep I've still got EDS , acm impacts , lower spine stuff that IS medically evidant in many ways , multiple sclerosis ect ==but at 5/7 , 5'5 " , 115 lbs , = I'm back UP walking an average of several hours a day , and able to carry 5-10 pounds a few mins , taking more and more care of both the house , gardens and rebecca == in good overall health , greatful for medications that allow ME this much , but keep that pain bearable where I DON " T want to snarl at anyone at all = LOL = and most of all = well aware I CAN go have those next two surgery's the nsgs feel would help ==but I " M doing ok thanks , I'll wait UNTIL that dire I can tell point again = LOL . Yep -even doing a bit of scottish dance on my toes now and then ( and wobbling to that chair in 90 seconds LOOKING like the wiskey already passed my throat too -= LOL . ) Better yet , I can sing again now too = I'll join that choir again instead (G) knowing I can plop back onto the bench when needed =tehehe . PS :: nope :-( nothing I've found =fixes the eds /pots =ortho stuff that hits with standing up = or stagger standing in lines ect , just prepare to sit at ANY moment =and practice easing to the floor fast ( practice makes perfect = LOL ) . take and carry a light weight chair with you YOU can sit in = to appts , lines , even grocery lines if need be ( or use thier scooter ) - but DON " T fall and crack your head or tailbone please ! in Paradise
