Guest guest
Bob I have never heard of purple carrots, are they different from the normal ones? gloria > \Bob > I try to garden, its not quite the same as when I was in Washington. The part of Texas I am in does not get very hot in the summer.Thats cool about your purple veggies! Is there a story behind that?We are unable to have apple trees here produce as there is not long enough cold spell for them. But other trees, peaches, plums, pears, orange, grapefruit....And of course the pecans (The squirrels sure enjoy tthose) This area is very good for those interested in bird watching. We are on one of the major migration paths, also for the Monarch Butterflies. And the wildflowers are blooming all over the place- bluebonnets of course, and others. > Do you also grow berries? I miss them so much! > > Bob > > BTW, How is the weather up there in Rainy Washington ? I do not miss the rain that much even when I lived in the desert, and now here in Semi-tropical Texas, still get a lot of rain. > > Hugs; > ! Guest guest
Hi ,,, I 'Garden' that is what I do ,,, but I try to grow things that are different (purple is different ) than what is in the store. Also I grow open pollinated veggies mostly, those you can save seed from. The 'Purple Veggies' are kind of a 'Theme Garden' and are from all over, the Purple Carrots and Purple Asparagus from s' Seed and Research http://petersseed.com/ in Oregon the Purple Beans from Parks in SC a friend sent me those from there also she sent me Purple Perilla (a herb) and Purple Cauliflower.. The Purple Basil from a friend in Holland ,,the Purple Cayenne Peppers from CA ,,The Purple Collards and Purplehull Peas are from AL and are hand-me-downs. I also grow some non-purple veggies like watermelon, muskmelon, squash and Tomato's.. I am trying this year also Applegreen Eggplant ,from MO which is a short season varietys. I have no berries here and I have a much smaller and rocky soil backyard then I used to have , I did have wild blackberries growing at the last house I lived in. Berries do well here,,too well,, wild blackberries are much of a weed here . Oh and a thing about Purple veggies is I believe they are anti cancer,, as orange is good for eyesight and red is good for your heart... (hope I got that right) Be Well BoB Re: Bob Hi ,,, Yep it's rainy here and cool (30's & 40's)... Do you garden? You should be able to garden year round in Texas, the heat in the summer must be killer though. That is my 'ME' thing, I garden, and this year mostly in 'Purple Veggies' ,,, I even have Purple Carrots', Asparagus, Beans, Collards, Peppers, Purplehull Peas and more. Guest guest
The Purple Carrots are from s' Seed and Research http://petersseed.com/ in Oregon,, they say they are : One of the nicest eating purple carrots to date. Quite colorful at maturity but brilliant at "baby" stages. 70 days mature, and are new to me.. did you know that 'orange' is really relivtively new for carrots? throughout history carrots were mostly white or yellow. Purple Veggies I believe have anti cancer properties and I hope will be good for what is left of my thyroid from the RAI in 82 (to keep this on topic ) ). Guest guest
Thank you, Bob, I will have to try and see if we can get any here in Alberta, they sound good. Boy, you learn new things every day, I eat purple cabbage and egg plant, just love the stuff but didn't know that it was an anti-cancer agent. gloria > >Reply-To: The_Thyroid_Support_Group >To: " The_Thyroid_Support_Group " <The_Thyroid_Support_Group > >Subject: Re: Re: Bob >Date: Sat, 5 Apr 2003 12:09:55 -0800 > >The Purple Carrots are from s' Seed and Research >http://petersseed.com/ in Oregon,, they say they are : >One of the nicest eating purple carrots to date. Guest guest
We would love some rain, please send it on down under. Pam Radioactive Mamma Re: RAI Recovery!! Hi Amber ,,, Good Dosages are what make you feel as close to "NORMAL" as you can and is very indivigalistic (is that a word?) good Doctors' will use the lab work as a guide but 'Listen to You' and adjust it to how 'You' are feeling... That said , Levothroid is T4 and Cytomel is T3, both hormones that your thyroid used to provide for you. I take both myself, adding T3 to my T4 (for about three years now) made me feel much better and even lowered my blood pressure to the point I no longer take any BP meds, I was taking two BP meds . Good Luck ,,, let us know how you are doing. BoB
Guest guest
What is with the purple vegies? Last year was the first time I had seen purple vegies for sale in the supermarket. I just could not cook or eat any of it. It really turned me off, like as if they were bad vegies or something. I have been getting into the garden too as you probably have read. Guest guest
Honey, I am just about eating everything in sight! I have been craving lots of carbs--usually I crave protien and salt....now I am craving sweets. Its making me feel even more FAT--HELP!! seriously, what can I do, and should I start dieting now, or wait? Since RAI I have gained about 15lb. I hate this. My Endo is supposed to send me to a dietitian in a couple of months--he didnt seem too worried about my weight gain. He just said I can start watching my calorie intake if I'd like to. What does that mean? How many calories a day should I have? I thought that good dieting was about getting rid of the bad carbs. HELP! Talk To Ya Later! Guest guest
Amber.. have you had time to wander around the carb addicts site.. I'm guessing you may be going through some of what I have in the last few years.. carbs are triggering binges and you are craving and gorging on carbs even when not truly hungry... I'm gonna send you a test, off list, that will tell you if you are having carb issues... read the instructions... answer them honestly.. no one will see the answers, just you.. you grade it yourself.... with it you'll know if that is indeed what your body is going through and then you have a point to start from....
