Also you have to teach your son to always wash his hands after touching the dog. that is a good rule anyway. There are a number of things that you can do to make it easier to live with the dog, but if your son is allergic to animal dander then you won't find a breed of dog that doesn't have animal dander. You may want to arrange a playdate with someone else's dog first, to see if it triggers an asthma attack.
