Inositol

Inositol (myo-inositol) may reverse the desensitization of serotonin

(5-HT) receptors, ultimately improving the symptoms of OCD as

indicated by clinical studies administering 18 grams daily for six

weeks.15 Inositol (myo-inositol) is required for formation of cell

membranes, where it functions as phosphatidylinositol.16 It affects

nerve transmission, transports fats, and facilitates methylation

reactions.14 Inositol is important in reproduction, embryogenesis,

and neural tube defects.17 It stimulates the production of lung

surfactant, which is primarily phosphatidylcholine (lecithin); an

extremely important nutrient for the collapsed lungs of the

premature newborn.17 Lowered or altered production of inositol

follows adult onset (type II) diabetes,

multiple sclerosis,

premature retinopathy, fatty liver, chronic renal failure,

depression, panic disorders, and OCD.13

People who take inositol for OCD. HIGH amounts seem safe.

Perhaps >10,000 mg a day. Watch out for diarrhea. See below::

Inositol

Patients with OCD taking 18 g of inositol for six weeks had reduced

OCD symptoms.15 SSRIs benefit OCD and inositol reverses

desensitization of serotonin receptors that may contribute to OCD.15

At least this stuff tastes okay.
