Guest guest
Well, I'm the kind of person who is bugged by unanswered questions, so I think I'd opt for the MRI just so there are no more nagging doubts in the back of my mind. Then you can decide from there. My son had a lump at the base of his spine (LMC), but no symptoms. We opted for surgery because often, by the time you exhibit symptoms, the chance of recovering lost nerve control is gone... Best of luck! -Shea ________________________________ To: tetheredspinalcord Sent: Monday, February 2, 2009 9:28:51 PM Subject: Newbie Here I'm sure if I searched enough through the archives I might find some answers, but I'm going to explain our situation anyway. My 16- year old currently takes Ditropan because when he has to go, he has to go NOW. He was an almost daily bedwetter until the age of 9 or 10 and then it was as if overnight he outgrew it! Due to a change in our medical insurance, we recently saw a new doctor. When we were discussing his overactive bladder she asked if he had ever had an MRI of his spine and mentioned tethered cord. He does not have the dimple I've seen referred to so many times. She said she had one other patient who had similar symptoms who did have tethered cord. The patient had the surgery and it only minimally helped with her bladder control issue. My son hasn't had an MRI, so she scheduled one. Well in doing more research we cancelled it. He is a very athletic kid and exhibits no other signs of TSC. If an MRI were to show that he does have TSC we doubt we would do the surgery at this point because it doesn't seem worth the risk for minimal solution. I guess my question is, is there something I'm not finding in my research that should have me leaning toward and MRI and potential surgery? Is there something I'm not seeing here? Thank you!
