Guest guest
Hi , I smoked for only 3 years and that was 33 years ago. I had undiagnosed TB as a child and dormant TB was found in my lungs when I was 40 when I had a bronchcospy (Sp?). This caused granuloma disease in my lungs and together with bouts of pleurisy, bronchitis, pneumonia and MAI, I developed bronchiectasis along with a compromised immune system. It was a long steady progression. The Dr.s stated that pneumonia was going around here in SE Florida and I must have picked it up from the office or whenever I was in contact with the public. There are lots of people coming into the states caring all kinds of diseases and we citizens all are at risk as there is no control or testing done. So far, smells don't see to bother me and I carry sani wipes in my car to clean my hands after touching those dirty doorknobs and light switches etc. I even offer them to my clients and they seem quite pleased with the offer. Some of the condos smell of mold and that does effect me (it burns when I inhale) and I just wait outside if the client wants to view the unit. I will not expose myself knowingly to mold for anyone or any sale. Be careful and stay well, Eileen-FL Collis wrote: Hi Eileen Hey this is a coincidence I sell real estate too....hmmmm.......Did you ever smoke....I quit 3 years ago...I know they say this disease affects children and women non smoking....I just wonder...I believe our career choice has a lot to do with it...meeting so many people and in so many homes always touching door knobs, in peoples bathrooms, bedrooms. In my Dr's practise he has only had 2 cases diagnosed in over 20 years this would be myself and another female real estate saleslady...!!!! I asked my Dr. if this lady was an ex smoker and he said she has never smoked. Now the smell of any kind of smoke sets me off coughing and choking, perfumes take my breathe away. Thanks, for sharing Collapsed Lung Hi All, I had a non-productive cough for about a week, it got worse and I was given prednisone and Levaquin. A few days later on a Friday, Dr. ordered a chest x-ray which showed walking pneumonia. Since I was on medication, he said that if I got worse over the weekend I was to go to emergency. My cough did get worse and the phlegm in the center of my chest would not come up. I was having difficulty breathing (which never happened before) and decided it was time to go to the emergency room. I was x-rayed and diagnosed with a collapsed left lung in addition to the pneumonia which was quite a shock. I needed a chest tube inserted and I was so frightened of the procedure, however it wasn't as painful as I thought, but coughing with this tube in your body is no picnic. Lots of morphine helped me through this ordeal. My sputum was cultured and they found that I have another aspergillus infection. My infectious disease Dr. gave me a script for V-Fend which has worked very well for me in the past. I had to wait 3 days for my insurance company to pre-authorize this medication which costs $2,326.00 for one month's supply (without insurance), before I was able to get it into my system. Apparently the surgeon feels that the incessant coughing produced a small hole in the lung, coupled with the pneumonia and fluid, it collapsed. He stated that if I get one of those horrible coughing spells, I need to take my codeine cough medicine to avoid any future problems. I didn't realize that heavy coughing spells could cause this to happen. This is a totally new experience for me and wonder if anyone in the group has had a similar experience to share? I also understand that after a collapsed lung, one can not fly for 6 weeks. Have a happy healthy Thanksgiving everyone, Eileen-FL Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage. Never miss a thing. Guest guest
Good Morning Eileen You will be happy to know that the USA has closed their doors to refugees and Canada is getting them all now! I just read in our local paper that our community a city of over 450,000.00 is in debt and was awaiting some money from our federal gov't because all the refugees crossing at the Niagara border have been bused into our city to be on our welfare system consequently our property taxes will be increased and they are talking about a surtax of 1% (that would be to feed, cloth, and house these families). With refugees these are the people that our countries just accept no matter what they have health wise or criminally....at least with the landed immigrants they do check out their health but they don't quarantine them until they get the results. I guess the USA and Canada divied up these people before now the USA has said NO MORE! I'm really nervous of reading these articles it didn't say what countries these people are coming from but I can just imagine. I was Xmas shopping yesterday the whole day and other than the store clerks I would say maybe I heard 20 people speaking English the rest were all speaking whatever their language is and loudly too....Our countries are becoming 3rd world countries, and our Dr's are not prepared for this plus our bodies can not handle these new bacteria's, etc.....Shame on our Gov't's for not being better prepared and preparing us for what was coming so we could protect ourselves! We do have to be careful at the office in my main office there are about 100 agents, I work out of a branch office with about 40 agents. The gal that runs our marketing department has had pneumonia off and on for the last 10 years. She currently has it and was only off work for a couple of days and told me her son has bronchitis (a severe case) I told her she needs to get a Cat Scan (I didn't share with her my diagnosis) but I think she too has it. There is our Xmas dinner party this Friday and I've declined (because of all the office sicknesses esp. her's) People need to be respectful and stay home when they are sick even esp. with a cold as the sneezing sends all the germs airborne. I don't want to be paranoid but I also no how I got this and it came from a sick client so now I try to avoid what I can when I can. We need to protect our Health Have a great Day! An ounce of prevention goes a long way..though the vaccine's dont cover every strain..and there are many..it sure helps. Some smells overpower me more than others..avoid aresols..they're a real kicker..I can handle light scents..but those strong deodorizer scents for houses..colgones etc take my breath away terribly Sandie in MD Never look down on SomeoneUnless you're willing to help them UpFor each new morning with its light,For rest and shelter of the night,For health and food,For love and friends,For everything Thy goodness sends.Check out AOL Money Finance's list of the hottest products and top money wasters of 2007. Guest guest
We need to protect our Health Have a great Day! Because my immune system is so comprimised now..and due to the fact that I can pick up the germ you're carrying before you even know you have a virus..I can't work any longer..and I miss working terribly.. I make it a point to avoid ESP large crowds during cold/flu season..that's one of my best defenses to staying healthier Sandie in MD Never look down on SomeoneUnless you're willing to help them UpFor each new morning with its light,For rest and shelter of the night,For health and food,For love and friends,For everything Thy goodness sends.Check out AOL Money Finance's list of the hottest products and top money wasters of 2007. Guest guest
I appreciate the exchange of MEDICAL info on this chat group BUT, with all due respect, I would rather not mix it with politics. How about we stick to the stuff that pertains to the illness we share and keep our political views to ourselves - or go on another website/chat group to share them...please? One person's opinion could well be offensive to another...and the less stress, the better!
